After market other than Akrapovic?

Hi All!

Noodling through potential upgrades to my '07 FE650 (and buddie's & brother's '06 FE450s...and likely another '04 FE650 buddy & I are picking up together), I am wondering if there are any after market exhausts for Bergs other than the Akrapovic systems?

I have only ever seen the Akrapovic systems mentioned for Bergs. Are they the only exhaust performance company that has built stuff for Bergs?

Would be nice to do a little comparison shopping......if there is anything else to compare to. ??

I think you can use any slip that fits a current KTM off road bike, but it MUST have a loose mounting bracket like the Akro, so that it can be mounted on the left side. Most Euro mufflers have the movable bracket, and as Dale indicated, Leo V likely would as well. Problem with Euro exhausts is the lack of spark arrestors.

What..does that 650 need more power??? LOL

Thanks DaleO!

I have lobbed a question to the Boss in this regard. Do see a pic of a Leo Vince silencer on an '09 on the website, but listed pieces for sale are all Akrapovic.

We shall see. :)

Fryguy!

Yeah, these 650s are pretty good, but anything that will significantly pick up the output, without trashing reliability, would be welcome as the bike just seems to be a little weaker than it could be. I can sense quite a bit more in there wanting to be released...and I want to release it. Especially on the ice. Dirt, well, sure it'd probably work fine as is, but can you ever really shoot that roost as far as you want to??

Just because it's faster than everything else already doesn't mean it fast enough!

Have you done anything with the jetting to get the most out of the bike?

DaleO!

Apologies for any mis-leading comment in my last post to Fryguy. I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek there (humour) teasing Super-Fry as, actually, my bike flat flies already (and he knows it!!).

I have messed with the carb extensively or, to be corrrect with that, have had major mods done to the carb by Dick's Racing. Following that, I have started tuning on the carb of my own to get it completely "sweet". Not quite done yet.

Carb has the Dick's taper bore, Merge Leak Jet, Extended (finger turnable) Fuel Jet Screw, Power Now horizontal carb throat divider, and the nifty Dial-a-Jet mod to aid in mid-range and top-end gap filling along with some built-in altitude correction (some degree of learning still to come with regard to making the most of that mod).

I have (at Fry's advice) dropped in the Euro needle (nice change) and have twiddled with all the standard jetting. The Dial-a-Jet feature somewhat blurs the function of the base jetting and the overlapping function of that mod, especially with needle and main jet settings, but I'll get it sorted. As it is so far, the bike has amzing throttle response, pulls like a monster, and only exhibits mild occasional popping on deceleraiton under extreme circumstances out on the ice track.

I actually fitted the Moose slower turn throttle tube/cam to let the power ease in more right off the bottom as I found it so aggressively responding to right wrist input that I could not ride it smoothly in conditions requiring a mellow approach right off the bottom.

I know from the current optimum fuel screw setting that I am still 1 or 2 sizes too small on the pilot, and I have yet to work up to settings that are too rich on the needle or main jet. It runs good enough that I was not worried though, and the bike is so damned fast that I didn't really "need" more to asert dominance (at least from the bike) out on the ice as far as I got this winter.

As the weather improves here, I will be out fine tuning the jetting and getting even more out of this crazy engine. A pipe is a natural consideration for another easy (except for the dollars required) performance bump.

I also got the full Dick's racing suspension (APS) upgrade front and rear, but have not done any riding on those legs yet. Really looking foward to getting that stuff set up. I'll be rolling on the fastest Cadillac in the forest! :D

Did I mention this bike is waaaay too much fun?

There's also a company in Belgium named EP which makes exhausts and slip-ons for Husaberg. They have +-1HP less then a akrapovic, but i like the sound more and they only cost +-600 euro's

I scored a Barret slipon off ebay for $300au. Rather loud compared to the Akra but I believe it also puts out more hp too. Comes with the moveable clamps to fit most models. Needed slight jetting mods to stop the popping on decel plus 2 clip positions richer.

Thanks Michie and Wildman!

Haven't checked this thread in quite a while. Will check on the EP and Barret options.

Complete noise control may not be a factor in this application, nor is spark arrest, as the intention is for use in endurance ice racing. Usually well away from civilization out on a lake someplace where letting it bark a bit might actually be fun.

Thanks for the info!

My local Berg dealer sells Doma silencers, not sure of their availability across the pond but another name to look out for.
