Hi Fakesy,

First: a big welcome on this site and a big compliment with your choice. You bought the best bike in the field at this moment.

With the bike you should get a nice white bag with a owners manual & spare parts manuals.
In there you will find answers to questions 1, 3, 4 and 5.

If you don't feel comfortable with the hard run-in method or you don't have sufficient background about mechanics; stick to the OM.
One thing though: the first oil change really has to be done at 3 hours max.

The oil question: just as the run-in subject there are a million opinions. I prefer to stick to the manual. That means a high quality synthetic oil.

Husaberg/KTM sell a trickle battery charger, partnumber: 81229074000. In Portugal the
RRP is: € 147,60

I use Husabergs for my tour company and I generally change the oil after 5 to 6 riding days. That can equal up to 20-25 hours. With that practice I have good results. It all depends on how you ride your bike. Most riders change the oil more often.
When you are not hard on the gearbox, clutch & not yank the throttle in a 2-stroke/MX fashion the bike/engine will last forever.

Valves: MY 2009 uses little shims for valve clearance adjustment. In general the clearance doesn't move as much as with the old method bolt & nut.
i have a 450 and a 570, the clearance on the 570 didn't change after 44 hours. The 450 still needs to be checked.

Mileage: we do up to 100 km with about 7 liters max.

Be sure to check all nuts & bolts in the first 20 or so hours. Don't expect your dealer to have done that for you. A special attention is needed for the two little screws that hold the back fender and the black reinforcement part together: use locktite from the start.

have fun,
Adriaan

Hi Fakesy,

1. Make sure bike is warmed up before you start, dont immediately rev the **** off it, go do a short trail ride vary throttle speed , up & down gear box like you would normally do but dont top end it. Then drain break in oil, replace and filter and clean screens as manual. Next ride go full pace and top end it now & again.

2. Get a specific bike charger like optimate mad efor the job. You may have to disconnect negative or take the EFI fuse out before charging as the efi system may keep priming the pump when it reads the charge if you dont.

3.Motorex 10/50 is recommended either power synt 4 or cross power.

4.Every 3 rides or after a race.

5. Check valves initially after a few hours at first service so you have a reference and then every 20 hours of greenlane.

6. 10 miles per litre trailride. Obviously a lot less if racing.

Good luck with your new bike, I have the 570 and love it.

You probably wont need a charger if you ride evry fotnight.
You do need to watch water under pressure getting into intakes, whip out filter and fit airbox cover when washing. i also make sure to put a good layer of the white waterproof racing grease on the perimeter lip of air intake to form a good seal with air filter.
