Hi there,

I have a 2002 Husaberg 470 for off-road use now and want to buy a new Berg soon.

I can get a good deal on both a NEW 2004-model FE450e or FE501e. Both same price and brand-new.

What are the differences in driving characteristics? I am not a competitive driver, but more a fun driver. The 470 suits me fine powerwise.

Are there any technical or reliability issues on one of them models?

What would you advide me to do??

Thanx!
Proemer

if the 501 had a keihin and kokusan i would say get the 501 but alas it doesn't. SEM ignition!!!! dell orto!!!!!

i would get the 450. it has more power than your 470 and it's refined.

regards

Taffy

Hi Taffy,

Thank for your response.

The FE501e does have the Kokusan ignition en Kehin carb. 2004 was the last year they produced the 501. I specificly checked.

So then you say, get the 501? Why?

Greetz,

yes, IF you have those two items i would go for it. i can't think what the 501 wouldn't have on it so it should be the better bike.

regards

Taffy

You guys got a 501 in Europe for 04? In the states it was a 550. If it is really an 04 spec 501 go for it. Very good balance of torque and revving capabilities. Wish we still got the 501 here.

In the future if I get a new Berg I'll get a 450 rather than a 550. The 501 is an excellent bike. Unless you compete and need to fit in a class, I'd get it.

Get the 501. Husaberg hiatorically has been a company that builds a 501 enduro, and other models based upon that platform. I believe that if Roland (R&D in Sweden) has his way, Hbg would still produce the 501, the bean counters in Austria likely said that Hbg could only build 3 displacements (odd as that may seem).

I don't see how the FE450 could be faster than
the FX470.The only place my 470 was lacking
was way down at the lowend,I would get the
501 over the 450.

I don't think so. The only 501 -04 I know about is the Edition. I never bought a new bike then due to the Husaberg dealers but there should not be any 501 -04. Check the frame number and perhaps someone can tell if the bike is built -03 or -04. The -04 engine has a different design as well, rocker cover, both sides of the gearbox etc.

What I have understand the FE 450 -04 must be weaker than the FX 470. One of my friends has a FE 450 -04 and there isn't much punch in that engine. The tests in the magazines have verified that as well.

I would say, go for the 501 if it is a -04. It's really nice to handle/funny but it will keep you fit as well.

Hi,

I checked on the Husaberg 2004 press presentation. The FE501e (Limited Edition) was sold in 2004 WITH the Kokusan ignition and Keihin carb.

So I think I should go for the 501?!

Yes. You're lucky if you get one. What price are you paying for it?

I know in Europe bikes are more expensive (due to the taxes).
