Adjust Breaklever and bars!

Hallo there!

I´m fooling around with the adjustment of my handlebar and the clutch and breaklevers...

I´m trying to get the levers in a straight line from my arms, when I´m driving standing...

The Clutch is no problem.... but the breaklever is.... if you want to bring it down the breakcylinder, or the pipe from it, touches the bars... and above there is the throttleadjustment...

Anyoneelse who has noticed this? And maybe got a sollution for it... or maybe I´m doing it all wrong...

Thanks!

/Rikard

P.S I´ve got this "gap" between the "throttlewirehouse" and the throttle... like 5 mm... it seems like it should be this way... but in pictures I´ve looked at the throttle is right next to the "wirehouse"... anyone with a 501 ´01 who knows about this or could check theirs.. D.S

Yes you have got it right. The nut of the banjo bolt keeps the master cylinder from rotating down as far as you like. Such is the nature of fat bars. About all you can do is rotate it down to where the nut touches and then back it off a bit so it's not touching.

The only thing I can think of that might get you some more room is to use one of those teflon collars that go on the bars underneath the mount for the clutch or front brakes that allows it to spin round in a crash so your levers don't break.

As far as the throttle house......... I'll have look at mine later and let you know.

Thanks!

Sounds good not to be completely out of my mind... :D ... just a little...

So the sollution is to tip the bars forward... in order to get the lever down... as I got the lever now I need to keep my hand in an awkvard angle... can´t use it as free as I want to... I´ll try that...

But you don´t want your bars too much forward, do you?

Thanks for checking your bike Dale!

The throttle tube grip flange is about 8-10mm's from the main throttle housing.

For the record, I've just got my front brake rolled as far forward as I can get it without the banjo nut touching the bars. It's not as far forward as I'd like, but, it's pretty close.

same here - banjo touches the bars. and that's with my nissin as well BTW!

forget the lugs, saw them off and do what you want. to bleed it all you just need to think "imaginatively!"

hmmm... I really don´t get it.. :?:

Dale: ok, then the throttlehouse - grip is ok... as I thought...

and I went out yesterday and did the same thing... got my frontbreak rolled over as far as I could...
and then I rotated the bars forward a tiny bit too...

I think I´m pretty close too... I´ll know next ride... let you know...

Thanks again guys!

Hi Rikard,

I think what Taffy meant was to grind the banjo bolt head down, or take the hex head off to give you a bit more clearance. Then thinking imaginatively, to bleed the front brake system you just use an irrigating syringe and bleed the front brake from the caliper end.

Getting rid of the hex head on the bolt, at least where it is touching the banjo bolt should give you at least 5mm more adjustment, which should be enough to get the levers pointed down further.

Best of luck,

Dale

who says you need to bleed the m/c on the bike?

i have an old 5/8th steel bar in the cupboard....................

there is always a way....

Taffy
