I'm swapping head race bearing so took the steering shaft off to remove lower bearing, not noticing that the stem can be fitted to adjust the rake, the front mudguard rubs against the frame so I guess it is on steepest setting unfortunately I didnt take note of which way to re fit the stem, can anyone advise, there is a flat part of the thread on the top of the stem, does that go towards the front or rear to get the steepest rake?
makes on lower clamp are 20/22 for the offset
cheers also if youre reading this Taff ave you got a head race bearing lit inc seals in stock and how much please

Hello Retromic

yes, I am reading this and yes we have headrace bearings with seals in stock.

to change the 'rake' is to change the 'angle' of your forks. what you are offered doesn't change the angle at all. it change how much the tyre contacts the ground behind an imaginary point down through the headstock. it is called your "trail".

basically, you want 20mm of offset everytime. that means getting the forks as near the rider as possible. that only applies for those reading this TO THIS BIKE. EACH BIKE HAS IT'S OWN PECADILOWS.

was that useful? trail is the distance forwards or backwards BUT AT THE SAME ANGLE you move the fork and wheel assembly.
