adding signal lights to a fe450

Doing a supermoto conversion this winter on a 2007 fe450 usa version. It came with headlight and tail light but I would like to change them all to LEDs and add signals and a horn.

I've searched forever and can't find the exact output of wattage on the lighting coil, it is currently torn apart so i can't test it myself. I assume since the euro version had road legal equipment the stator can handle it but I want to make sure.

2005 FE has a 150W generator according to the owner's manual. Try to hunt down the 2007 owner's manual if you want a definitive answer.

Having said that, if it was capable of running the head and tail lights, and you intend to swap to LED, your load will be lower anyway... so I doubt the additional (and only occasional) load of the horn and indicators will cause you any concern.

is the lighting on these AC or DC? I don't know about Husabergs but some dirtbikes run the lights on AC, if that's the case you won't be able to run LEDs.

I was able to find a owner manual for the 2008 version here: google drive docs

I'm pretty sure the 2005 - 2008 are the same at 150W like you said.

However like Junkie said some run on A/C, however it has a reg/rec so I assume its D/C.

I think I should be good since i'll be reducing load going to LEDs like you said.

my 03 Yamaha WR450 had a battery, an electric starter, an RR, and yet still ran the lighting on AC. no clue why they did it that way. not saying this does, just that they don't preclude it.

Yes a lot of bikes of this era used AC lighting. Probably as a solution to run without a battery... or if it's completely flat?

Fortunately, almost all of these bikes are easy enough to convert to full DC with a little rewiring and probably an upgraded regulator/rectifier to handle the full generator output.

If you don't want to get so intimate with the wiring, there are almost certainly AC LED lamps out there that could be made to work, or a simple local rectifier should be able to do the job too. Whether you can buy these or need to make them yourself is another matter though...
