hi,
i have a 02 fe650e and i am thinking about drilling and tapping the motor case to provide an oil drain plug.
i know how to change the oil using the side plug, but i am looking to add a faster way.
also, the threads on the side plug can really take a beating if you dont clean them perfect.

has anyone done this?
thoughts [good or bad] about this idea.

thanks

Hi Tuts,
While a additional drain plug would no doubt work,I think you might be better served using a liquivac oil drain system for frequent, fast, oil changes.on second thought I dont think you have enough room on the berg engine for the tube

On the 94 501 I had, I added a drain plug directly under the crank, or rather my dealer did when I had them do a rebuild. They welded a slug onto the bottom of the motor, then drilled and tapped it. This allowed all the oil to be drained without having to kick it over a bunch of times to get that oil out of the crank area. It was pretty amazing to see how much oil came out of this area when changing the oil. Now, that was on the pre 2001 motor, but, I would imagine that the same could be done to the newer motors as well.
