A little advice please

So I have purchased a drop valve 650 (07) engine for my 08 FE 550.
This engine needs a rod, piston, liner, & valves at the minumin.
Im thinking Corillo rod, high compression pistion , (so long as it can be run on 92 fuel ) & upgraded valves/guides/seals to start.
Im sure there wil be other bits of course, yet I have the entire engine.

The quest here is where to start on looking for a rod, liner/piston valves etc...
I see a few for sale yet would like to keep this build somewhat simple minus the head & carb porting . (in house)
The exhaust will be cermexed, but I know thats the least of the build ! lol

I do have a few local resources , yet doubt they are familar w/our engines. IE: LA Sleeve , Wiseco, CP etc...

Any advice is welcome ! :)

Thanks---Proflow

Hi Proflow

you don't need a carillo rod for any amount of tuning of the standard bike mate. standard is fine.

we sell oversize seats, flowed 37mm inlets, the exhausts, well 37 inlet needs 31-32 exhaust and I have PM'd you private advice on how to save some coins on that one. please don't share this it is 'commercially sensative!' LOL!!!

you'll get more power by getting the squish done to perfection than half the mods you are considering.

if a rare rider you might consider an FC ignition flywheel which helps the engine rev but has no input back to the battery. if kickstart is good enough then running it as a MX type bike is fine with the FC flywheel and stator.

have you a photo of the head and the damage please?

wossnerpistons.com you will get a standard piston, try Taffmeisters if you need it hi comp. Im not sure if the wossner piston is for the 628, or for the 644. Acording to the specification it seems the wossner piston is for a 644, but it will work in a 628, but at a reduced compression due to different deck height.

Wiseco.com have them as a build on demand item, min 12 units. They should also have a big bore template, which was custom made for someone on this site, the rest were sold off to menbers on this site

pro-X.com have standard pistons as an off the shelf item. They are for 628cc

Any husqvarna agent should be able to get a standard conrod for you, if they are still available from the factory

Valves are the same as KTM RFS engines, ask for valves for ktm 525, and double valve spring kit from ktm 525 ATV.
Buy them from ktm agent if you want original valves, or buy kibblewhite, they also make them in oversizes. Kibblewhite also makes a lightweight titanium double spring kit.

You could get a new liner from any husqvarna agent, if they are still available from the factory. Try taffmeisters, David may have a recoated or a new liner.

Try Munn racing.com, they are a Husqvarna and KTM dealer

cp-carillo.com will have the template for the conrod, many on this site have had them made, so they will be familiar with it. Carillo conrods come without a bearing and pin, so they have to be bought separately, try wiseco or proX for pins and bearings.

Main bearings are same as ktm 525, NTN NJ206, there are different suffixes to those bearings, some bearings are better than others, there is a thread dedicated to main bearings on this site

Head gasket, timing chain, get from Husqvarna agent

Browsing through the threads on this here site will also give you some alternative places to find what you need. I have Listed the most common, which is what I use to get my spares

You guys are good to me, thank you very much.
This is new to me as ya know, but not scarred ! lol
Just wanna make a realiable torque engine is all :)

Thank you---Proflow

Yes, let me tear the 3 valves out of it & take a few pics.
I can tig the flaw & then do want the new seats / guides done correctly.
I do actually have a tallented hand in porting as hopefully this head is worth.
Magnuflux will tell if theres going to be any cash put into it or scrap.

wossner don't make a 650 piston for the 2004-2008. the dished piston from Husaberg fits 2004 and the 2005-2008. the pro-x piston looks poor and the factory piston really is a work of art.

pro
best to measure with a vernier over the old piston before you split the engine. then split the engine, confirm the piston make and height and get me the figures and I'll get you a bespoke piston taking the squish to the minimum.

regards

Taffy

Yes Taff, I see that now, I was still looking in my Ye olde Wossner Piston catalog 2014, it seems to have been discontinued since. It is no longer in the new wossner catalog.

Apologies for the misinformation.

the prox 628 piston doesn't just look poor it is actually a piece of steaming silver crap

Wossner 570 piston does fit the older 628 and its made with same basic specs but the 628 Elko (oem) is a better shape for the older head

if you can be bothered there are wossner pistons for ktm smr 540/560 that are too tall .. machine the top off to get what you need.

no apologies needed ... its the miss information published by wossner that has been discontinued not the piston
