Hi all

Just Purchased a New 05 FE550e & Motard kit three weeks ago.
WOW this thing go's hard. Just a question about the thermostat is it an advantage or disavantage the fC & FSC models do not use them.
Thanks hope to hear from one of you soon

I suspect you may hear numerous opinions on this. Mine is, it is a good thing in that it keeps engine temp fairly constant, and warms up quickly. If overheating becomes a problem, than it becomes a pest, remove it. I have an 06 FE450, it has one, and no problems so far. I have not been in summer temps yet, I am waiting to see what happens. I had a 96 KTM 360 that had a thermostat, had to remove it in summer, too much restriction I guess. Enjoy the new ride!

Hi Husados,
Welcome to UHE.
.
Such does aid warm up and should not be a problem. As a matter of fact a restriction post water pump often increases the coolant boiling point.

My advice, retain the thermostat and install an electronic temperature gauge to monitor the operating temperature.

Install the sending unit on the engine side of the thermostat.

Numerous gauges are cool! Makes it easy to diagnose problems or fine tune performance. Unfortunately it can become a birds nest of wires. :)

gauges are cool, no need to impress your buddies...
If you want the certainty that is available regarding coolant temp...

I purchased one of these gauge kits thru Dale. Mounts nicely, has an internal battery so one can use it on non-starter bikes. Also has 12vdc lead that will light an LED for night viewing & recharging the internal battery, (light doesn't work on internal battery). I checked current draw connected to the 12v, measured .04 amps, not bad for a light & gauge draw. I connected thru a toggle switch, (disables starter button also). Sure nice to know the temperature before it's too late.

Thanks,
Dale
