a chance missed - and is it too late?

i meet a few people that absolutely love the FS650s! they can see no wrong in the bike at all, they dribble as they describe the performance, drool as they stand back admiring their own bike (i'm embarrassed and move away....) of course we know that they don't run like that forever and EVERYONE struggles to start them.

an enthusiast's bike?

definately!

so here's a question....

HOW CLOSE WERE HUSABERG TO HAVING A BIKE WITH CULT STATUS?

another 900SS desmo

another laverda jota

another CBX1000

well i reckon that they came close......

sure they phucked up. they should have got the starting sorted 100% 4 years ago for '04. i reckon if they had fitted an alloy tank, dual valve springs, lineaweaver LX2 with big bore headers, the old BV head... they would have had the right engine

BUT, and here's the rub.... they should have forgotten SM, forgotten it completely, and gone for a roadbike with a fantastic metallic paintwork and decals of that type (on road 100%) and even broken the mould with the bike being so quick and going for a:
graeme crosby moriwaki kawazaki top fairing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tell you now, the bike would would have hit turbo warp drive in the sales dept.

alas, like the 900SS desmo before it, it is going out of production just as we all realise what a fantastic bike they made. they are fools to stop making the bike but they will.

expect prices to go through the roof in years to come, for them to become collectable, desiarable, tuned etc etc

ex christian iddon.....the 550 converted to a 650 and the owner swears that "its an original 650", 470s with 650 stickers, dads telling their sons: "i had a 650 single son, used to jumpo 4 foot in the air to get it started!".

get them while you can.

in rememberance

Taffy

remember who told you first.

graeme crosby Ive seen him ride, mostly on one wheel the whole race!!
My cam is getting the lx1 grind right now, I hope I am doing the right thing.
Got the big valves!! done on the head job machine!
Most people wont a r600.
I am doing my best to make it into a road bike, but it is handy to be able to ride over the odd curb, gutter etc
which a road bike will not.
Road bikes are heavy.
I don't wont to see fs 650 everywhere, they wouldn`t be special if they were.
Defiantly a cult bike gathers lots of attention where ever I go.
Cheers spanner

Without going into the" look " that you are refering to,and if it would sell todayTaffy,it should be taken into account that it is one thing to sell a machine for off-road use and something completely different to comply with the testing requirements of all the different countries where they would need to market these on road bikes. I do not think most would even begin to understand the hirdles that would have to be jumped over and $ spent to make this a viable project for any small to medium manufacturer.
I do think that Husaberg could make a production roadracer and create a market that would do very well for them.

well i don't see the difference between a FS650e and what i'm on about?

a few extra comforts is all i'm on about and a quality finish. husaberg plastic doesn't shine after a while- that's a fact.

Fs650e are not DOT street legal,in many states and provinces where there is an opportunity to make them so, it is done.BUT no Husaberg is DOT approved street legal and in its current format cannot be.
One major drawback I am told is that the engine does not hold enough oil to pass one of the tests. The current engine does not and cannot meet the current immisions tests and the fuel system does not pass the evaporative imissions test. The lighting system would have some difficulty as well.
It would also be very cool if they could make an F-16 into a family jet.It might sell well, but for a million reasons it aint goin to happen.

we have a totally different set up over here. so we need to be able to see both sides here.
