the bike I always laugh about as being the last of the starters - the 470.

I have a weird one here. it actually starts so well, there is no kickstart lever fitted and I don't know what make sit so special? :D:D

anyway, I shall still always say how bad they are at starting but there will always be a 'but' in it from now on!

I wonder what I could measure to ascertain its special qualities.

Check all tolerances and valves, check all settings in the carb?
Or maybe it's like quantum physics so it stops working when it's measured?

the owner is selling it straight away on ebay I think. should be a photo of it with no kickstart arm.

extraordinary!

I've got and almost matching pair of an o1 and an 02 and never managed to start either one on the starter.

you have my sympathies as I had always considered the 470 engine the very worst until this last two months. in the 6 weeks since Christmas I have had to completely review my attitude.

I was lucky enough to build both engines so I knew that they were spot on inside.

the carburettor is going higher up the 'naughty boys' list.

ok my 02 FX470 has started easy from day 1.....but I couldn't leave it alone. I found a sudco mikuni FCR in the glass case at a shop going out of husaberg business and bought it for like 150 bucks. and it STILL started easy!....but I couldn't leave it alone so I jetted it according to Taffy and it STILL started easy but I couldn't leave it alone so I installed an 06 cam, compression release and dual valve springs and gave it a good valve lap. ...and of course it still started easy. in fact sometimes it starts on it's own when I'm not home......pisses my wife off really bad. ok, the last part is a lie. BTW the starter and clutch thing has never failed. also I have a shoria that puts out a lot of CCA

here's the thing....motorcycles only start easy when you don't give a **** if they start or not! it's a mind game

congratulations! 14 years of ownership I trust and what about the old one about: "one careful onwer (the other 10 weren't so fussy)".

you do not want to see the state of some of them. bought cheap - sold cheap. the bikes are rubbished.

Hi

I've rebuild also one 01-470 and after some work it also starts first kick (doesn't has starter)

I've changed the engine a bit, to suit better the rider.

Here is what I've done with it, the engine had a complete rebuild (sleeve, piston, rod, valves) the piston is a flat one from the 650, changed the cam to a 02 (FE), changed the timing of the cam (holes of the sprocket slotted), it has the lighter (FC) flywheel and stator, and Taffys DSVK and Dellorto kit.

It's not a cheap recipe, but I can tell you, in fast roads it's a lot of fun !!! it's like a WRC car :D
