i am redoing a rat "00 fe400e and after reassembling most of it, i find i have a bad cdi. this cdi is the same design (digital force?) as the '99-03. difference is the connectors.
good guy that i am, i sold my spare cdi of that vintage to brucifer a while ago, so i'm out of stock as it were. just for fun, i tried a spare cdi that i had for my '98. you get a good spark from it.
my question is: with the different resistance values of the stator between the early and later sem stators, would this be a good replacement? ignition curve doesn't concern me. seems to me the kicking acv values are about the same on both style stators.
sparks: will it damage the stator longterm?
anybody try it before?

Have some small experience.
98 CDI (red) with a 99- stator did not work at all, spark but no more action than a hurting left foot.
96 CDI with a 96 stator (Sparks) on a 99 501, spark but nothing more.

All the stators and CDI`s seems to be interchangeable between 99-03

ok, so what i think would be the problem is that the digital late cdi is retarded at starting rpms then goes to advance at higher rpm. so while kicking, the older cdi would try to fire at 33 degrees advance, which would make for a sore foot. or something to that effect.

ah, well, anybody need an early cdi?
anybody have a spare digital cdi they want to sell?

looks like log is gonna help me out. thx log!

You're welcome Ned! I knew I was saving that damned thing all these years for something and someone worthwhile... 8)

the Mk2 and 3 stators work with the black CDI's of any vintage but the red CDI's will only go with the early Mk1 stator with the 1750/23 output.

If you want that CDI repairing Ned send it this way and I'll do you a good deal repairing it. I now eat regular meals and I'm off the high carbo diet oxfam supplied via the air drops into hunger ravaged Soham....

that's what i was thinking. if i needed to use the red one, i'd have to get a late 90's ktm stator so i could mount it in the cover.

I've got all three here bud plus the MX mk3. I have a rewound KTM. see how you get on....

Taffy
