Will any other year kickstart shaft work for a 1998 FC600? Ideas for finding 98 parts?

It looks like the same shaft is used from 1989-2002 Part Number 230097-01 $272.96
The 03-08 shaft looks the same in the drawings. Part Number 80033050000 and goes for $121.32
Perhaps someone knows if the later shaft will fit the early Bergs or if the entire kickstarter shaft assembly will fit the early Bergs?
