hey all, just curious about you opinions on the ideal sprocket set up. i have a 98 fe600s, i only trail ride this bike and am currently running 16x52, iam looking for some more low end torque and low speed lug for single track stuff. so far top speed hasnt been a big problem ive never even got into 6th gear. hoping to get her very aggressive. just wondering what you guys/gals have tried and what works best. i do have a 15x48 set up that came with the bike but the rear 48 tooth is alum and after seeing previous post about cracked sprockets iam not surei want to even install it.

Hi

That has a lot to do with you, how you like to ride and how much clutch you like to use.
If the bike is correctly setup it has a lot of power everywere for you to chose the sprocket you whant.

I'm sending you some docs to help.

Re: 98 fe600s ideal sprockets?

With my '96 FE600e, the stock 15/48 gearing was fine for all trail conditions including the tightest single track. I usually ran 16/48 gearing for all-round riding conditions. Since the 1994 - 2000 bergs had a wider tranny ratio spread than later Bergs and since the 1st gear in the early bikes was so much lower, the 15/48 and 16/48 sprocket combos worked great for me especially with all the low speed torque from the 600.

Note that 16/52 gearing is almost identical to 15/48.
