Well, Ive got the top end apart on my 2000. I didnt build the head myself, cause it was recently done, and all is new. The top end is a pretty straightforward rebuild. I cant imagine the bottom end being all too difficult. If parts are a problem thats another story. Couldnt tell ya about a KTM engine.

As I understand it, KTM didn't acquire 'Berg until 2001 or so. That said, I cannot confirm any cross-fitting ktm 400 parts from 98. I know for my 98 FE501 I had to get 97/98/99 'Berg parts for my rebuild.

You can get a parts fiche from www.husaberg.com for your bike and thats how you can tell what years have cross-fitting parts.

First things first though, you need to get that motor out of the frame and start busting into the head to see just what the issue is, and where. These bikes are pretty darned easy to work on ( I was in your shoes just this winter) its just tough to find parts.

Look on EBAY, i've seen a slew of parted out older 'bergs on there recently, might be worth your time after you know what needs replaced.
