Hey everyone, I have a 97 fe501e. It has a big gun silencer on it. I was told it was just a slip on but am thinking it is a full system. I picked up a stock silencer for it to quiet it down. The stock silincer has two pipes going into it were my front pipes go into a y at the front of the head and single into the silencer. Did I just pick up the wrong silencer or is this a big gun full system ?

If its a big gun then its a full system.....your pics are definitely a big gun system, the stock can requires stock head pipes...

I think there is a big gun for sale in the classifieds....cough...cough.....throat clear noise

nice looking old bike you have

Do you have a screen in it? I noticed a big difference if I didn't have a screen in it vs. using a screen in noise output...the screen is sandwiched right behind the end cap thats held in with three screws on this system.

Also from what I noticed the stock can vs the big gun at wide open isn't that much louder, maybe sounds a little better at wot but not much louder if at all and it is a little louder at idle...nice thumper sound...and definitely more torque on the bottom too.....

Im pretty sure there isn't a screen. I will have to look. I want to quiet it down abit. Take the bark out of it. It is a big gun silencer. The previous owner said it was just a slip on silencer but I was thinking it was a full system. I will have to look for some stock front pipes so I will have two systems.

Aw man, I thought you had the stock head pipes.....I don't have mine anymore I sold them a long time ago, just realized I sold you that stock muffler, lol I looked back through our pm's and I said I didn't have the stock head pipes in one of them......lol I though you knew you needed them but it wasn't a big deal because you had them or something.....might be able to find some on ebay or put a wanted add up on the UHE main page. Or at this point if you cant find the stock head pipes you could try a screen, I went to biggun main page and bought one right from them for like 15 bucks or something...that might help get you by for a little bit, I think they have quiet cones or something too for them but I don't know for sure if they fit our model.....go to big gun exhaust, then go to "parts" then go to "sparkys" and that's the screen, you don't need the spacer ring just the screen....I cant remember how much quieter but I know it was some quieter also a little power loss I thought tho too....

Maybe it's easier to have baffles built than to score a new silencer?

Things like this (these are for a Termignoni exhaust on a Ducati):

(P.s.: I'm sure you've checked and replaced the packing?)

iirc, big gun makes a "quiet baffle". i had one in both of my big guns. with that baffle and a repacking it is as quiet if not quieter than stock. also, there are several companies that sell spark arresters that go on the outlet.

For some reason I was thinking big gun had gone under. I am on the fence about making it a super moto so it might just stay loud lol. Its a fun bike to ride and street plated already. With the lack of parts availability I hate to beat it up in the woods. The silencer is freshly packed. Does the spark arrestor fit inside the old oval silencers ?
