97 FE501 Dellorto carb tuning for altitude help

I've seen the film and the americans broke the code while surfing behind a submarine!

Well if it was in color of course it must be true. Actually I believe the Americans did capture Enigma codebooks from a submarine, only IIRC the British had done the same thing some 4 years earlier. No doubt that was explained in the movie?

Thats ok, I was into the whiskey last night, and said too much at once. I have a hard time understanding you guys from the UK also. I did buy and install a 32 and 30 pilot jet from Herdan's, but ended up dropping the needle clip and going back to a 33 after the atomizer change and all seems pretty good now.

that's odd. the smallest PJ is a 33 but what do I know?

can't really say fella, your use of semantics leaves me none the wiser and quite frankly nonplussed by it all. maybe bletchley park could break down your codes but i can't!

OK, I'll try to make this one simple question, No matter what I've done to the jetting/carburetor, the mixture screw still likes to be turned all the way in to achieve the highest RPM's at idle (when warm). Other than that issue which I suspect causes overheating the bike runs great. Any ideas what would cause this issue? One suggestion was checking the air bleeds, please explain in more detail.

Go to "Forum"
Go to "Fuel"
Put "Air Bleeds" in the search.
Somebody put up some good pics where the air bleeds are located

to me, the ignition isn't advanced enough. it can't burn the fuel off. suggest you look in the doc at how the timing can be done. new line and a timing light and off you jolly well go!

Hello, I have recently purchased a 1999 FX501 and found this post. I also live in Colorado and while my bike starts and runs I can tell it is running a bit rich at startup/idle (won't start off the starter sometimes). I put in a fresh plug and it was wet and a bit blacker than I would think it should be. I cleaned the carb and found it had all stock jets except the main which was a 175. Also the clip was in the top groove of the needle. I moved it to the stock position of 3rd clip down but now it feels like it has a dead spot at mid/top range of RPM's so I am thinking I need to move it back up or get a leaner main. Either way I was wondering what you ended up with for a pilot jet or if someone could give me a ballpark suggestion so I only have to order a few and get the right ones the first time.
