I bought a 97 FE 600 over a month ago now and it has been nothing but trouble since 30 miles down the road from buying it. I'm no mechanic so sorry if my description is not very clear but here goes
The initial problem was that it was not easy to start and would cut out randomly every half an hour or so of riding, like it was running out of fuel even though there was plenty in the tank. It got most of the way home before we gave up trying to start it again and rang the RAC, as it was dark and the lights were a little dodgy too.
The next day a friend helped me check what they thought were the obvious thing like the carb and wiring, we also changed the spark plug. After this we got it started again and it seemed to ride loads better but again after half an hour or so it cut out and it had to be pushed home.
Luckily I only live 15 miles from Dave Clarke so I went to see him and he seemed to think it would be the valves. So again with the help of a friend I first checked the clearances and set them correctly, this seemed to make it worse as we could no longer start it at all. Next we removed the head and checked the valves seats, which all seemed to be leaking. So after re seating the valves (and waiting nearly a month for a head gasket) the head was put back and a few other little things changed including seals and gaskets.
Now its all back together it starts really easy but cuts out before i can even got on it to try it. Once it has been started no matter how hard I try it will not start again until the next day.
Now from what I've read on here I know they can be difficult to start at the best of times but this can't be right. I'm starting to think it could be an electrical fault as there is either a very weak or no spark at all after it has started once. If anybody has any ideas on what could be causing this it would be very helpful. Thank You
