first make sure that the kickstarter is corectly installed, the kickstart shaft must be preloaded so that it pushes the kickstart towards the plastic cushion on the clutch cover when it is closed, and not have any gap.

then open the kickstarter, move it down by hand until you meet compression, then let it return and you will hear the clicking noise from the decompressor.
do not close the kickstarter!

from this point you must set the decompression wire's freeplay at 2mm.

then its all set!

when cold:
1.choke to position on
2.kick all the way very slowly 2-3 times
3.choke to position off
4.kick start slowly untill you find compression, let it return to hear the click and then a good kick all the way and it will come to live!
if not repeat from step 1.

when hot:
1.choke off
2.kick untill compression, release and give a strong kick all the way.

p.s. this procedure assumes that your carb is correctly set. (jet sizes, idling speed etc)
p.s.2. do not touch the gas at all through these procedures.

plus, cheeky question, but how much did you buy it for?

New bars, both wheel bearings, few bolts needed here and their. Nice on surface bit rough underneath but will be sorted with me owning it. Just got it for something different to run and to train on normaly race a sx 125 so bit of contrast 8O

I gave the guy six reckon its decent enough deal?

Hi Walker,
I've got the 2000 model FC600, but the engine is basically the same as your '97.
I've had some difficulty starting my bike from cold in the past.
Sometimes it would go on the 2nd kick, sometimes it would take 10 minutes.
Not fun.

After some trial & error I've found this method gets her going in 2 to 3 kicks from cold:
1) Petrol ON
2) Kick the bike over around a dozen or so times (full kicks, but not as hard and fast as a proper start kick).
3) Choke ON
4) Get the kickstart at the top of it's range of movement and kick it through all the way , fast and hard. Be sure to kick it ALL the way,or you might get a sore kick-back!

When hot:
1) Petrol ON
2) Kick the bike over a couple of times gently
3) A full fast and hard kick should light her straight up!

This assumes everything's mechanically OK.
As oyk says, don't twist the throttle when starting the bike.

I'd say £600 was a good deal. Did the fella have receipts for all the work that was supposed to have been done?

Good luck and let us know how you get on with the starting routine!

Ye he had the receipts from Mr Clarke's their, after reading owners manual she had wrong plug in her so on that note changed oil and oil filter. Getting new wheel bearings hopefully tommorrow and correct plug then will get her up and running hopefully on good friday. Racing next sunday so will probably take the Berg with me if im not up their for a result will take the berg out in last race for little test play, cheers for the advice fellas
