97 501 throttle question

Ok long story short, I just picked up a 97 501 from a guy who owed me money. He was moving out of state so he let me pick it up before he left. Ive seen the bike run about a year ago, and all he said it needed was a battery.

I replaced the battery, and tried to start it. It sounds like it has good compression but has failed to start for me.

My actual question is: Right next to the start button, there is a red switch that moves, Left and Right. I thought that unlocked the throttle, but I have no idea what it does. The throttle is locked, and does not twist, what am I missing?

GO easy on me, Husaberg's are completely new to me.

i have a 97 fe600 which i beleive is pretty much identical, the red swing lever thing is the kill switch, if you can see the circle (switch pushed right covering the circle with x over it symbol) it is on and the engine should have spark,

if the swing switch is pushed left and covers the circle, the symble you can see is the circle with an x over it the engine will not have spark

reguardless of that position the the throttle shoul twist, possible causes : throttle handle seized, cable seized, or carb slide stuck

good luck

the starter should also crank in either position of the red switch, id start by going after whatever is binding your throttle may be the whole problem

when you get the throttle twisting, dont ever twist it while crankin the engine, it should start without any throttle and if you give it any throttle while cranking you will notice gas running out on the ground cuz you just flooded it big time, have fun starting it then :p as long as you are not cranking it, twisting the throttle with engine off will have no bad results that i am aware of

thats a good tip to remember before you let your buddy who rides a honda take it out for a ride

Thanks for the reply, all that info helped a lot. Yeah I never twist start my bikes, but I didn't know if there was some sort of throttle lock or what. Going to check the cable after work today and see whats going on. Ill report back!
