Just a quick question. The 96 fc and fe 400 use the same motor and are the parts interchanable?
Thinking ahead just incase i need replacement parts.

differences in that engine style is generally just the transmission if the fc is a 4 speed and the cases/frame if the fe is an estart. all else should be interchangeable. carbs could be different as well.

The FE models back then came either kick start only or electric (with a slightly different frame). If I remember right, the FC400 came with a close ratio 6-speed as did the FC501, although it seems like the 4-speed was an option on the 501 and 600. (A friend's '98 FC501 had a 6-speed.) Somewhere I think I still have the brochure for the '96 models with all the specs. for each one. The carbs should be the same with the exception of jetting, but the ignition on the FC may not have lighting coils. BTW, I bought a brand new FE501 (kick start only) back then.
