Hey guys, I was curious what the cross over years are on the older models. I am wanting to put a 1996 600cc engine on my 1995 FE501 chassis. Should I expect issues or is it pretty much a direct mount from one to the other ?

Awesome ! Thanks.
Can you please tell me where I can find information on the older models, model numbers, engine sizes, years etc ? I’ve tried looking around but I must not have the correct terminology.

Well, this 600cc engine has the electric start on it and is not wanting to fit in the chassis. Are there different chassis for the electric start engines ? Looks like I’m gonna have to find a metal fabricator around town.

Also I found out this engine is a 98.

so you didn't mention the small detail of a phuqing great starter motor on the front and couldn't just simply see that it wasn't going to fit?

dear oh dear!!!!!

this is top level stuff ifn't it, and not waisting anyone's time that tries to help you of course?

forget it. just forget it. you want a 600, swop the crank assembly, barrel, camchain.

yours (exasperatedly)

He said early on that he doesn't know the terminology, obviously he's new to these bikes, so it's understandable he didn't know that the electric starter would keep it from fitting.

You've been doing this long enough that lots of things seem obvious to you, not so much for everyone.

Will it fit with the starter removed?

unfortunately not.

you see the FCs and FEs are balanced on the crankshaft only but the FEe has a balncer infront of the crankcases rather likae a kangaroos pouch.

then above that the starter motor is mounted externally as well so there are TWO things in front of the original FC or FE engine.

all he has to do is swop the internal crank of one with the other;
crank assembly complete with piston, barrel, tensioner blade and camchain.

swop.

Well, I had my questions about it when it arrived, I was definitely thinking it wouldn’t... But I’m stubborn and had to try.

Changing all of that out on my 501 is a good idea. However the reason I got this engine was mainly because the transmission on the 501 is phuqed.

Of course my biggest issue is I don’t know anything about engines and I’m not a mechanic so I’m learning as I go.

Why do you want to change chassis? Sounds like you can't....pre 99 non e start counterbalanced 600 motors were too much power for most .

Best to find a 2000 chassis that is more modern......

E start motors are mounted through the swingarm and a lower mount towards the front....Non E start motors are mounted through the swingarm and at the front of the frame.....they are totally different. You would be better off buying a second hand gearset off ebay and rebuilding your own gearbox.

50% of gearbox problems are in theleft cover, they are infact selector problems.

the trouble with selector problems is that they phuq the gearbx up. its not always the gearboxes fault.
