Hello forum My name is Tom
I have just become the new owner of a '95 FC600
$T2eC16ZHJF8E9nnC8HI)BQ+!pFySrw~~60_12.JPG

Yep that one in the picture
And.....I have a few questions....
The frame number confirms it is a FC600 '95 vintage I also have a letter from Husaberg backing this up..
according to what I have read on here and other parts of the web, the FC should have 6 gears, in fact on the casing it indicates 6 gears, however there are only 4...at least I can only get 4 on the selector.
Not ridden it yet as I've yet to get it started, the previous owner assured me it was running in December '12, but had been sat for 2 years prior...stripping it today finds the float stuck wide open with plenty of corrosion in the bowl, though it should clean up.
Dropped the oil out, that was more petrol than lubricant...so the bike is getting a full overhaul.
What are the spare parts like for availability for this age of bike, do the later year engines fit the earlier frames ?

Thats about it for now..time to get busy with a toothbrush and carb cleaner to see if the carb is saveable ..

Thanks in advance for any help

welcome to the site. got a beast there. get the carb squared away and learn the kicking drill (just past tdc), with new oil get it running before deciding on an overhaul. prolly should have a 4 speed there. i think they used that cover on everything. as is with all the sem sparked bikes, the stator is questionable at best. there are rewinds available. as far as the newer style engines are concerned, i wouldn't bother with an '01-03, and you'd pay more for an '04-08 than the bike is worth, and still have to mount it up. keep it stock.
also wouldn't hurt to put your location in the signature or the personal info.

Updated the personal info :)....been busy picking corrosion out of the carb all day so not been online :)
The bike has a spark, checked that when I took the plug out, there is no fuel in the cylinder now though..BBQ lighter soon sorts that out, the exhaust was full too, that was a lovely blue flame :)
Should have the carb sorted by tonight, the battery has been on charge all day, not that it needs one to start, but it works the lights.
I was told that KTM wheels fit...any idea which ones, I might get a set with road tyres on for general use, keep the originals for playtime.

I also have a Suzuki RF600 '94 sportbike for distance work and high speed craziness :)

Welcome to the site Tom and congrats on your purchase.I'm not certain on the best place to point you for spare of that year but I'm sure one of the team will have soem direction. Hope you get it rolling soon so you can enjoy it.

Cheers From OZ

Tom,

That's the thing about the early FC bikes. There's no telling if they've got the 4 speed or the 6 speed. I have a '96 FC600 engine and a '97 FC600 engine and both are 6 speeds but they are the close ratio gear sets. Your best bets for parts are this forum, ebay, and Taffy. The good news is that these bikes aren't worth much so people are dismantling them and selling the parts on ebay so used replacements are very easy to come by for most items.

You should stop wasting your time with the old Dellorto carb and pick up a nice Keihin FCR. I've run an FCR 40mm carb that I adapted from a Honda TRX 450 Quad on both a 600 and a 501 and they run very well once equipped with Taffy's jetting.

You mentioned that your bike has a battery. That must have been added later as the original FC bikes were motocrossers with no need for a battery. My guess is that your stator has been upgraded to the FE or FX stator with lighting output in order to run the lights and charge the battery. Hopefully this is a fairly fresh stator, ideally it would be a Sparks rewind.

To answer your question about engine fitment, yes the newer engines will fit your frame as my '95 501cc engine is currently bolted to a 2003 frame. As a matter of fact, my '97 600 cc engine just came out of the same '03 frame for maintenance work. However, like was mentioned earlier, the newer engines will be very expensive to come by and, with regular maintenance, your 600 should live a nice long life. Plus, you won't have the counterbalancer bearing problems like the newer engines had. Matter of fact, some have proposed the theory that the older Husaberg engines (pre 2001) were less prone to main bearing failure due to the absense of the counterbalancer.

You have a great bike there, so enjoy!

I can do quite a bit of new stuff - as good as anyone but I didn't break these, I like to repair them not kill 'em!

check for how many wires come out of the ignition cover on the right? is it 3 or 6?

don't worry about the gearbox. phuq the gearbox!

I can't recommend to you too strongly that you look for the CD1 jet under the PJ. look in "the doc" for info on it. I would also look at getting a 'dell orto spruce up kit' from me as well as you'll find that everything in the carb is old and worn.

regards

Taffy
