9/22/07 Tough Day!

We had a great two days of riding in Idaho City Thursday and Friday. Then my two brothers and I drove to Stanley Idaho for our last day of riding for our annual fall riding trip. We just started our ride at Casino Creek about a mile from the trail head when I came up on my youngest brother Tom who is 38 years old laying on his back not moving, legs in a weird position. I ran over to him and he said man I screwed up. Too make a long story short he destroyed his number seven vertebrae and is paralyzed from his chest down. He was life flighted to Boise and is in physical therapy.
He has a wife and 5 kids. The reason I am writing this post is too let everybody know that it only takes one mistake to change your life. Ride in control and don't loose your head. He admits he had it wide open on a 03 TM 300 MX which is one fast bike.
We still don't know what cause the accident other than he was going too fast for the type of trail he was riding on. Our family and friends are hoping and praying that Tom will walk again.
Tom has always had a zest for life and I think this will pull him through this tragedy.

Terrible news. I wish your brother and your family well. Prayers going out for your brother.

EE

I feel for you, I have been there, by brother busted his neck when he was 22, just married like 3 months. C3-4 pretty high, ( the saying c3-c4 breath no more...) paralyzed from the neck down. We were told he would not live, he did. he never quit. he got off the respirator, went back to college, is now teaching school and has a couple of kids. He was injured in UTAH, spent 4 months at Mckay D in ICU , and then another 8 months at a rehab hospital in the SF bay area. it has been 13 years since his accident.

If you would like to talk to him, just let me know. he knows a lot about the different resources available, and about how to work the system to get the SSD and medicare that he has paid into the system his entire adult life. you have to fight for it. he has helped quite a few new quads and paraplegics.

Not to infringe, but his wife and kids will also need A LOT of help in the time to come, both physically, mentally and spiritually. do your best to help them out.

let me know if I can help.

Sincerely,

Jared

A day of joy turning into disaster in just a few seconds... It hurts to read this. Isidre Pujol in Spain had a bad riding accident earlier this year and is paralyzed too. It is truly a tragedy whenever such things happen. I do not know what to say.
My very best regards.

Thanks, LeFrog & Smorgasbord for your comments they are encouraging.

EE,
All of the Bovington enduro club send your family their prayers and best wishes. A reminder to all, that after 35 we start to get broken easier and it takes longer to recover!
i snapped a vertabrae {T4} , it took ages for me to regain my fitness!

all the best!

That's really rough EE. Wishing your family all the strength to help you through this difficult time.

sorry for your brother's crash, wow. I got married on 9/22/07 and he gets the injury wreck of a lifetime. Life is weird.

best wishes.

It really inspires me that with all the bad news in todays world that there are good people everywhere, that they would even care for somebody they have never met. Again thankyou for all your thoughts and prayers, my family and I really apreciate you and the Husaberg site.

God Bless

I don't think you can find a tighter knit community than one that revolves around motorcycles.
We realize that this can be a dangerous sport so we take as many precautions as possible
so we don't have to deal with things like this, but sometimes these things happen.
With support from family and friends, on line or in person, you can make it through this rough time.

Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Terrible news to hear,

Even thoug many of us have never met, it is special to see the kindness and moral support being shared. My thoughts an best wishes go out to you and your family at this time.

It shows that you never know when the big fella upstairs is going to throwdown your card.

Tough times

It was family and friends before this and it will be family and friends who help your brother through what now lies before him, whatever that may be.

A wise man told me once, " we are never sent more than we can handle" but there sure are times it doesn't seem that way....

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family

All of the guys in Las Vegas were completely distressed to hear about what happened. You know that your brother and his family are definately in our prayers. Hang in there Mark.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers to all the above post, I just went to Boise over the weekend and hes doing as good as can be expected, he has a pretty positive outlook. His wife and kids are really troopers as they are keeping their chins up. They think he will be able to return home in about 4 to 6 weeks, just in time for Thanksgiving.
