Hi guys, I have an old '86 KTM 500 MXC thats in really poor condition but the engine is good. I'm having trouble chasing up parts to restore it but being a left hand kick start, I was told that I could possibly put it into a 2008 'berg frame. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone heard of it or better yet, done it? Would really like to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you in advance :D

I test rode a KTM 500 of similar vintage in a cow pasture many years ago. It was nearly impossible to keep the front wheel on the ground. I didn't buy it figuring it might not be ideal for the tight woods riding I like. lol

There are a few youtube videos of a similar vintage Husaberg with a Zabel 700 2 stroke engine and the Zabel engines are very similar to the KTM engine you've got.

Similarly, I've considered finding a '92 to '95 KTM 550 two stroke engine to fit into one of the frames that I've ended up with. Shouldn't be too difficult. I expect that the exhaust might be the toughest part of the swap but you should be able to start with the stock KTM exhaust for that.

Go for it!
