70 degree map switch

installed a map switch from 70 degree racing.. at first i thought it wasnt working because there is so little difference between soft and agressive modes. however; when putting around fire trails in 2nd gear like i love to do at about 3000 rpm, i noted the agressive map the bike is jerky when you just touch the throttle. on soft setting, it is gentle, soft, and friendly.. the bike accellerates quicker on the highway on agressive mode

At first I didn't think it worked either, but then I noticed that I would break traction when shifting in the aggressive mode. And the more you gun it, the more the difference.

I have one as well and can't seem to tell the difference. Also, the kill switch does not kill the engine so I am unsure if it does anything at all. I double checked the connection so I know it is hooked up properly. Perhaps I am not in touch with my bike enough yet to tell a difference.

I assume you know that you have to have the engine OFF when you switch the map setting. The ECU only checks the setting when you start the bike.

I only use the soft setting in the rocks or in extreme mud. The rest of the time my FX450 stays in aggressive mode.

I can feel a noticeable difference between the soft or standard and aggressive settings but none between soft and standard. I sometimes wonder if soft and standard are the same. I started with an OE map switch which was c**p to use so finished up modding the redundant indicator switch on the left bar. Having to kill the engine to change settings is a PITA and goes a long way to negating the advantage of having switchable engine power characteristics in the first place. JMO

I have the OE map switch on my 390berg and have no issues with it. In aggressive mode the bike revs better and has more power.I have no problem in roots, rocks and tight stuff. I haven't touched it again

A 390 and a 570 in 'aggressive' mode are completely different animals. The 'soft' setting certainly benefits the 570 rider in the slippy stuff. JMO

No Issues??? 8O

The OEM map switch is crap in my opinion. You have to stop the bike and use 2 hands to change the position of the Switch. That is after you take your gloves off because you can't turn the Switch with your gloves on. Fumble with the rubber boot thing. Try your best to read the little numbers on the switch without your reading glasses.

Now this is a decent map Switch

Here is my switch. I built my own. I started with a Radio Shack mini toggle switch. Broke on the first ride. Went to a standard sized toggle switch mounted to a small dash board plate along with my key switch and grip heater switch. That had to go when I installed a steering stabilizer. So I ended up buying two handlebar mount 3-way switches from SicAss Racing (one for the heaters, one for the map).

I would have been better off just buying the 70 Degree switch in the first place. I ended up with a homemade equivalent that doesn't look as nice.

I would have been better off with the 70 Degree switch too, but they hadn't released it when I made mine. Think it came out not long after I finished. DOH! :D

Where has Dale gone? :hello2:

DeeG,

Do you have an uprated alternator fitted and if not, how are the electrics coping with the bar heaters? I've been thinking of bar heaters myself but decided the standard alternator isn't big enough.

My understanding is that the alternator can easily handle the extra load. But I haven't used mine very much yet, and when I do, I usually have the headlight off. I will probably use them a lot this weekend though. 2010 FE450.

Made my own too thanks to the fellas on here and still looks factory...

The mess is epoxy glue to give it some stability.

So I got myself some heated grips and tried them out last week. Purpously rode with the headlight on and the grips on max heat all the time for over 2 hours with no battery drain problem. This is GREAT! and means I can get away with much thinner gloves for better feel/control.

I'm riding a FE570S and the grip heaters work perfectly. The bike has 210 watts coming out of the stator. Grip heater will not cause you to get anywhere near that draw on the electrical system. I've even hardwired my GPS to the bike. I plan on adding a Trail Tech HID headlamp too. If I get near the power limits of the stator, I can recover some power by going to an LED taillight/brake lamp setup.
