70 deg. engine - seat mod for better breathing??

Might be something like this fella did to a pre- 09 seat.

I found these pics in the gallery:

Yeah, I found those by googling. Image search in the gallery sucks.

Anyway, I have thought for some time that the stock seat/air filter arrangement would not be optimal, but when I saw the poster mention a 4 HP increase from taking the seat off that got my attention.

I would think for dirt a person could have a custom seat made (something I need anyway - I can't stand the narrow seat for very long) where that area was covered with porous seat material and foam, but the plastic pan is cut away so that it breathes there. Some bracing - maybe a wire grid - in place of the plastic would help support the foam. There would be the danger of puncturing the material, but I think it would be minimal.

All I can say CodeMonkey is, you must be one helluv an awesome rider to have used all the available power of your 570 and still be searching for more!

Hardly. I purely suck off-road. I don't need more power off-road at all - I usually run the bike in the soft mode and I don't compete.

However, I do eventually want to add a snowbike conversion and those things need a lot more power from the bike than the dirt does and they are usually run at significantly higher altitudes, so more air is better. 2Moto has a turbo FE 650 they sell with their kits.

I am also thinking about getting some SM wheels and riding the bike on the street where 50 to 60 HP, even in a sub-300 pound bike, is not too much HP at all.

Beyond that, I am just interested in how the bike works.

In this post http://husaberg.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... 83#p106680 a seat mod and the fact that he saw an increase in HP when removing the seat was mentioned.

I asked but never got an answer. I searched and could not find an answer.

What seat mod??

Thanks.
The Bergos seat mod was what was mentioned. Bergos = German bike shop /tuner.

Use it together with the DNA air filter for most gain in hp (and A LOT more noise)

What the off road guys are doing is trimming away some of the radiator shroud edge where it meets the seat up in the front to allow a gap for better breathing.

The Bergo mod would be really good for SM, but not so sure about off roading and the "water splash" .

I like the DNA filter!

I thought about somehow modifying the edges of the seat/etc. to maybe provide more area for air to get in.

Personally, I think that would be better for the street than the dirt - it would seem to me that dust and/or water would be more likely to come in that way than through the top of the seat. If you submerged the bike then either way is not good - although the seat mod would allow more volume, but it would depend on how long the bike was submerged.

What I had thought was a seat mod with air filter type foam in the seat hole - although that would cut down the HP a little over no foam, it would prevent some dust from getting into the airbox. I'll think about it. Not a huge priority right now - but it doesn't hurt to ask and know what the options are.

Where did you get the DNA filter from? Any US suppliers? I have one in my 990 and got 3/4 hp from it. That one I ordered from Alternate cycles in Canada. Just looking for somewhere in stock and closer.

For sure DaleEO, I went on river run 2 days ago and snuffed the mototr twice due to the air filter being flooded by water spray when only in about 30 inches of water, the inside of my airbox is a mess and when trying to aquaplane it sprays up through the shrouds.

Bit late I guess but FWIW avoid the DNA off road

even in their advert picture you can see holes in the membrane that go right through

I tried one on my 628 years ago, found some grit (not a lot but still) in the airbox after a short ride in damp conditions with no visible dust.

there was an old post by Boss about this as well

The DNA works very well in my 570. Mind you it's a motard but I still do offroad and alot gravel roads. Theres not single bit of crap inside my airbox even with modded spoilers. Filter needs to be oiled with good quality oil like bmc or dna and put some grease on the mating surface of the filter.

Maybe you true offroad guys have different experience, but for me it's a really good filter for street riding.
