Will a '07 FE650 last a 5,000km 9 day race ??

I intend to enter the Australian Safari this year, it is a 5,000 km Rallye (dakar) style race.
http://www.australiansafari.com.au/

I am choosing between a new '07 FE650 or a '07 525EXC.

I favour the 650 for the extra grunt and top end speed as I need a sweet range of 100-150 km/hr with a top speed of around 170km/hr+ if possible.

HOWEVER, I know I can get a 525 to go the distance as I have had several of them, but I am not sure about the 650 (never had a berg before).

I really need feedback from owners / racers of FE650's, WILL it last ??

I am going to add an oil cooler for extra oil capacity and a cush drive hub to ease things on the gear box, and change the oil/filter each night (we will average 700km/day racing )anything else I should do to increase reliability ??

Appreciate feedback ASAP as I need to buy the bike soon to start the build prep etc.

Thanks

Very, very impressive BJ! You fellows have done an outstanding job of turning your Husaberg into a rally racer.

Nice! 8)

Should be ok for 5000 to 6000kms but after that who knows

Mine is needing a rebuild now but i think it died cause i overload the engine alot aparently....
Deep deep sand and short shifting no good aparently :(

I raced some Rallys last year with my Husaberg, take a look at my gallery. Look at this page that helped me a lot http://bjornnygren.se/

Can you send me the link to your gallery?

what model did you race and what modifications did you make to it ??

Cheers

As you see at http://bjornnygren.se/ he has gone a different direction than we have.
He has two 13 litres in front made out of aluminum. That makes the bike a little front heavy and will not ride in deep sand with full tank that well. Can also crack real easy.
We are using the standard tank in front and two rear tanks from the KTM 660 Rally replica -05. That makes the bike much easier to handle in the sand.

The new 650 engines -06 and -07 does not need extra oilcooling. This engine is super strong. Belive me..we have worked on these machines for over ten years now.
The only thing you have to do is never to use anything but MOTUL 300V engineoil.
Brake it in with standard oil for 5 hours. Then shift to Motul and just change every other day. You´ll be just fine...
Don´t mess with the engine...keep it standard and don´t take it apart if you don´t have to.

I raced last year a 2006 Husaberg FE550, I installed a side alluminun tank with 5 liters of capacity and worked fine for that race. Next August I will race the World Rally Raid Championship stage in Brazil named Rally dos Sertoes ( http://www.rallydossertoes.com.br ) with a Husaberg FE550. It runs about 5000km in the countryside of Brazil (hot and Sandy).
All the bike preparation is going to be make by Geraldo Simoes, experienced KTM Factory Dakar mechanic, he suggest the follow prep:

- Oil Coller - Husaberg factory capacity is not enough - http://www.joeracerproducts.com
- Meca System instrument support - http://www.mecasystem.fr/
- Meca Alu Side pannier tank - with some work will fit
- Large front Tank - Omero or now from BOSS
- KTM LC8 front fender
