probably needs a super strong starter motor. your engine already has the later(est) auto decomp. tappet adjustment is a favourite - if it's wrong it'll affect the engine.

it would be easy enough to pull the starter and inspect the brushes / clean the commutator as an exercise. but i would recheck the exhaust valve clearances and make sure the decomp lever wasn't dragging on the rocker during the adjustment. if none of that helps, perhaps the spring on the autodecomp came off.. its happened before.
what does it feel like when you kick it thru slowly? does it go thru tdc without a lot of pressure?

Thanks for your replys i am going to check starter motor then i will recheck valves.Regarding kicking slowly it seems to go through tdc no problem.thanks again

Yeah my 2005 650 is being a pest. When I kick it sometimes I get a backfire (Pop) or a mild backfire were it sounds like someone is in the bushes and trying to get my attention (pssst!)

I believe I want to check the valves 65.5 hours (3010 Km's) got the bike around 20 hours never checked the valves (I know I know) but I baby her. Want to also fix the oil weep deal issue and when it goes again, going with Orange Berg kit.

Reading the Doc, I learned that kicking with the electric start was the way to go, because that it was cold and the oil thick the starter was not gonna do it with the 5 amp battery (now Ive got a 7 not installed yet)

One day I swore the started did not disengage and was spinning around with the engine. I was like this is an odd noise coming from the bike. I stopped the bike turned it off, started it again same noise. Did it again same noise. Road it home slowly at roughly 50km/s Only 3 minute ride or less. Let it sit for 5mins started it, no funny noise.

Checked all valves and spring on auto decompreser still on cleaned starter still same (*****).I have been told if you fit a r6 starter solves the problem does any one no if this is true if so what year and is it a straight swap thanks.

I don't know which starter motors from which year husaberg fitted but I have found the 2004 starters to be quite good and not the cause of poor starting.

Tappets, carb, a good plug and the auto decomp set just right are the usual problems. remember that the ADC spring gets weaker as it gets older.

Why would it solve the problem? I thought it was a battery issue.
I tried with a car battery and it still turned very slow.I have checked everything the way to go now is either beefy starter motor or the r6 motor ill keep you posted.

Fitted the r6starter motor of a 99 simple to fit slight modification.Rechecked all valves checked decompresser lobe looked slightly worn checked spring.Put a blob of weld on lobe to lift it 1mm replaced spring.Put it back together fully charged battery fired up 4th turn with a bang .Starts first time everytime sorted thanks for all the advice top sight.

So does this prove it was a starter problem or the decompressor problem?

Hello, can you tell me what battery you are using with the r6 stater please.
I juste buy one, to replace the oem starter of my fe400 but with my old battery 6amp the starter not move at all. Thank you
(excuse my french ;), I'm a husaberg man from France)

hi kil, no I have a 400fe 2003, I forgot what type of battery exactly it's, but it's a gel 6A 0.7A x5-10h and I decide to change my strater with a R6 sm14 because the orignal was a bit to slow to start the engin.
And my question now is wich battery buy to start this engine because with the actuel batery the stater motor not move a all.

Hi

YTZ 7 S

Maybe there are some with more CCA but harder to find.

I believe that even old starter was ok, but your battery is too weak.
It's important that your battery have what it's possibly more CCA.
Try with that one what ZAGA say YTZ7S, or you have cheaper version, also Yuasa TTZ7S also with 130CCA.
