650 stator upgrade

After some google fu I dug up an old post from snowest.com about the '08 Husabergs stator.

As the original poster in the link above, I have problems with my Berg only starting 5-6 times after a full recharge of the battery. My battery is also brand new.

Have anybody done the stator change on their 650 with any noticeable improvement? And where can I get one if so?

Hi there.

Have a look through some of the older threads, that topic has been covered many times before. The problem is not the stator, but the starter motor/battery combination.

You need a battery with more cranking power(some have fitted two batteries to their bikes), or you need a stronger starter motor with more cranking power.

I took the e-start and battery out and just use the ol' left foot. Mine starts first kick 98% of the time...

Have a plated bike so can't remove the battery. And im also fairly short so removing the e-start would be stupid..

I'll check up some older posts later today. This is not something that need to be done in an instant, just wanna get the bike ready before summer strikes.

I only occasionally have a problem with mine when it's around TDC. I pull the decompression lever in and give it a crank to get it past TDC, then all good.

I did have some trouble when I first got it, with the stock battery giving up after a few cranks like you have but replaced it with a Lipo4 lithium with higher cranking amps and no problems since.

I'll also add that I bought a brand new battery last spring, with no change...

Use a high quality battery like the Yuasa YTZ7S which has 130CCA. Most budget replacement batteries have dismal CCA's.

Use a smart charger like a OptiMate 3 or 4 and always keep it plugged in when the bike is not in use.

Adjust your intake valves slightly on the tight side. If they are too loose the decomp will not work properly.

Insure the deconp spring is properly pretensioned and the decomp is not worn.

Try dual valve springs to decrease the valve train resistance and take some load off of the starter along with some other benefits.
