the shift star and the detent arm spring are kinda different to most bikes
husaberg have a pointy shift star with a lot of lift and run a soft detent arm spring, it should mean very light lever action and fast shifting but its a bit wierd, IMHO the shifting is done better with a stiffer spring.
I changed mine around a bit to get more positive shifting,
its a bit more like a tractor, heavy lever, slower shifting but suits my engine fine, i only need 2 gear changes a lap with the 700, with the 628 i changed gears 20-30 times a lap 8O

when you move the lever all that happens is the shift star rotates enough that the detent arm goes over the next tip on the shift star, then the gears move along the shaft later when they are pushed in by the detent arm spring so the actual shifting is done not by your foot but by the spring and the shift star profile.
what happens if the gear dogs are stuffed and the shaft circlips have fallen off the axial impact loads from the gears bouncing back and forth on the shaft are high enough to turn the shift star back and make the detent arm go back up popping out of gear, it revs up with the gear dogs disengaged and goes back in again when the detent arm spring can push the shift star back around.
its a bit like a complicated moustrap game, when you "shift" all you do is set it off, the actual shifting is done all by itself later on. bummer is even when you understand it the gears still cost the same!
