650 head gasket

Hi again! So after a little ride out today I found out that the head gasket is actually knackered.

It started to smoke from around the head which smelt quite sweet so I assume that was the coolant and there's also oil seeping from the seal which was a give away.

I am new to this so please bear with me. I have a new gasket and was just after a bit of advice on how to change it as I've never done this before.

Is there anything to watch out for etc?

All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Harry.

You can over torque the bolts to 60nm or 44ft pounds. Its about 15nm above spec. and is acceptable.
I stopped a coolant leak in the front after it got a little hot oneday by doing so.
Of course the rocker cover needs to come off to get to the other 2.
You might want to try it.

I prepare the surface with a bit of P600 wet and dry and go around the head with it on a wooden block and also the top of the crankcases. rub always across from 3 to 6 then 4 to 7 o clock and keep moving on. 30 seconds is all you need. use a plained piece of batten (batton/baton). keep tissue in the bore, be frugal with the gunk on the crankcase mouth and be clean afterwards/tissue in the bore etc.

oil the bore afterwards.
