650 Engine hesitation / Sputtering

Ok so after getting some tires and other things sorted on my 03 FX 650 I got to ride it a little and found when the bike starts to get hot (operating temp) it will sputter or hesitate on acceleration almost like poping and missing If i get on the throttle hard the bike seams ok. The carbouration seams good no flat spats bog exct fresh gas.

I put a new plug in the bike gapped to the spec(0.6mm) still the same i also measure the SEM got .8 ohms on the yellow/blue 3300ohms on the Red/Black and 194ohms on the Green/black Alittle high on the last one but just a hair over spec

I think I may have a new plug cap but not sure if any one else has had this issue

Also while testing some things last night I found one of the yellow wires shorted to the top of the carb @ a quick conctor, all of this was fixed with some heat shrik and zip ties.

Went for a test ride after fixing the shorted wire and still no difference. Is there anything else I need to be checking? :bounce:

have you cheked the ignition timing? (off the corrected marks not the factory marks)

No I havent done this yet I looked for a strobe light yesterday I thought I had one but I guess not Ill have to find one at work. I see most people are remarking there TDC but what are they doing to correct this turning the stator in the cover to correct the timing?

Also found out that i have one of these Three phase regulator rectifier setups good for power but kind of odd set up from what i read

Ok so i still don't have a strobe but I did retard the timing and then advanced it seems to run a lot better advanced but on pavement under hard acceleration it still has a studder also tried changing the plug cap and that made no difference.

Has any one had this issue before? Ive read about people finding the timing off and TDC not correct from the factory but what type symptoms are/were you having I would think this is the cause of my problem but I just want to make sure I'm not over looking something

not really bloke :? put it this way...its not a common problem :|
don't sound like spark.it either sparks or it doesn't.when my stator died...it died..not spluttering or half dead.
timing...yeah maybe....if its way out :?
sounds more like a fuel mixture problem to me.
has anyone tinkered with the jetting :?: is the a fuel filter on it? is the float bowl clean?
float level right? is the acc pump working or backed off too far?
blow the jets out etc, carb slide plate split & sucking air?
good luck
..weed..

I have not messed with the jetting at all the bike has been sitting for a long time so it is possible the carb needs a good cleaning. The bike starts up really well and runs really good other then a small hiccup now after I advanced the timing. If im going to go through the carb I think ill just replace all the jets trying to clean a small jet sometimes doesnt work if you cant clear it out with just air

Spencebro..... air often wont shift the gunk that gets stuck to the jets.... I use a piece of fine copper wire... from the likes of low voltage chargers or security cable, strip off some insulation, and start with 1 strand and run it through the holes, then twist two strands together, then three strands slowly building up to as many as will fit through the jet (#40 pilot takes three strands). the copper will not damage the brass jets but does knock the lumps off......
Gotta be cheaper than replacing parts that dont wear (except for the needle and seat which should be replaced surprisingly often).

just a thort.

Thanks for the heads up I need a couple other parts maybe when I get ahold at motoxotica I can have dan hook me up with some jets if needed
