650 Deck Height

Hello Again

1) I was just reviewing the data that I have so far on the Husaberg, whilst drawing up the liner and crank for the 750. I noted that Dale said that the Deck height with no gasket is 0, well on the 2003 650 that I have stripped the deck height is 2mm i.e. the piston is 2mm below the top of the liner at TDC, with no gasket.

Is this usual?

2) Does anyone know how Husaberg reduced the deck height of the 2005 engine to accommodate the 80mm stroke i.e. 1mm less deck height? Was the mm added to the rod or piston, (I don’t think it was) or was it taken from the cases? The reason I ask is that I want to know how similar the case profile is between the 2003 and 2005 650 so I know if my new steel liner will fit in the 2005 unmodified??

Thanks for the help.

Regards

Hi Ben,
The 600 / 650 engines do indeed have a deck height of 2 mm. 550 and smaller displacements are set to zero + /- .

Husaberg did increase the 650 rod length by 1 mm and if memory serves this was in late 2003.

The 650 engine now features a dished piston to maintain a user friendly compression whilst sharing the same head with that of the 550.

Engine cases are different in 05 as is the rod length.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Dale

I see thanks Dale.

Can you fit a 2003 liner into a 2005 motor? If not whats the difference?

Many thanks for the info'

I'd go to the dealer that I got the 2 650's from but he is 300 miles away and whilst his mechanics can build the motors up OK they don't have any need to ever measure parts etc.... and they certainly aren't into the type of serious mechanical alteration and tuning that members of the fine site are.

Ben

Thanks Dale

That is great news, it means that the 750cc kit that I am developing will be universal and will fit the 2003 or later models. As I am changing the crank, rod, and piston it is only my components that alter the deck height.

You will be the first to see photos of the kit, I have your email so I send them there. I hope to be re-assembling in about 5 weeks.

Best Regards

Ben
