Well, first of all I didnt do anything :) I helped a friend map his tuned hillracer so he helped me with this.
He just cut them with a grinder and then reshaped them to a flat end heating them with a welder.

Doing big projects like this, its all important to look at funding, the billions that normally goes to the office penholders is now discounted for!

Hahaha. Excellent.

Funny - when I called around here to find someone who could cut springs for me, everybody just fell silent, seemed quite nervous, and mumbled their way towards goodbye. I felt like a character in a strange modern Brother Grimm fairy tale, like I was asking them to release the town troll from the spring.

Since then I have been taking the same approach as you. Doing nothing. Haha.

Hehehe, its easier on your body and mind, eh!
When I was a young one and needed to lower the volvo 740, I just heated the springs in place and the weight of the car would push them together :giggle:

Yep, in the Nordics it is like; if you do something stupid you are stupid and have to face the consequences. So if you would spill hot coffee in your lap at McDonalds you would end up with burned crotch, wet pants and looking stupid. That's it.

Were much like the aussies inventing stuff out of nothing but without parental control (ie police), and Im soon 50 bloody hell :p
Had a friend over from UK this summer and did street riding, he was just studdering the first day ;) No cctv, no cops, no congestions, just bwaaa :)

Hoookay, results are in!

A question for you fellas, I was trying to estimate how much less travel the rear shock needs in order to lower ride height by approx 30mm?
I took measurements on the KTM which is basically the same construction and pushing the bike down 30mm the spring was about 10mm shorter, does that sound right?

Strapped the rear down to get a pic of what the end result will look like, I think it will cut the cake nicely.
White on the ground must be stuff to pick up the oil after I start the bike...

yes it is. the ratio is just slightly less than 3 to 1. so 30mm at the rear would be about 12mm on the stroke of the shock.

I have my legs bent and feet planted on the ground when I sit, and that looks even lower! Probably will be nice to control in the curves and with the weight on the back wheel less prone to lift the front wheel on the straights.

Please let us know what you think after you tried it!

Will do! Seat height at the lowest point is 89cm, and my heels just touches the ground, no more no less, but Im not that tall either at 5'8".

Everything is ready to be put back in its place, fresh swingarm bearings and the rear shock with shortened stroke. I think this is the sole reason its a bit warm and thin ice :D Should have pics this weekend as I dont fancy christmas much -> wrenching time.

This is what it looks like now, 70mm lowered front and 40mm lowered rear.
Will prolly have to muck around a bit with the settings. Did a few race starts just for fun and it feels like I can push it more before the front lifts, but its probably just my mind trying to justify the effort :giggle:

Nice! Has that purposeful flat-track meanness to it.

Makes some intuitive sense to me that the centre of gravity could be such that it wants to stay down ...

Videos please :) :) :)

Thanks Tourist!
You know, when you are too close to something for a while you lose perspective, Im worried the bike is becoming a hollywood-wife-thingy-inflatable-boat-lips syndrome spinning out of hand :D
Of course I'll put the cam on when taking it for a spin
