Serviced my 570 a couple of months ago. New counter shaft, piston, timing chain bla bla bla. Got it running very well next minute it stopped only about 100 kms. Pulled it down seized rockers, piston quite worn. (Lucky no bugged barell) the oil strainer blocked. Thought I left something in there what an idiot. I sulked and got pissed. Oh well.

Ordered new bits. Split the cases again completely cleaned everything blew everything out more cleaning etc... Assembled started the bike then pulled the rocker cover of pulled the plug out and cranked it over heaps of oil coming out of the oil jets. Happy days!!!

Threw it back together and rode around the block 1km. Thought I would dump the oil and check the strainer again. f**k me it was blocked again!!! With the same fine stringy goo stuff. Cleaned it out, more oil, around the block again came out good. More oil then 100 kms, dumped the oil again and the strainer had a little rubbish on it but cleanish. I think I caught it before the next set of rockers, piston and probably a barrel.

Any way done a little research and I me sure it was from the lint from the cleaning rags I used blocked the strainer.

Do what you want of course, but I suggest after a rebuild on these 70 degree motors start it, run it for a few minutes then dump the oil and clean the strainer. Use rags that are lint free. The oil filter was quite clean apart from a little debris probably from the wearing in of the new bits.

Will start the flogging so hopefully it does not go pop.

I too had a similar experience with a fresh motor clogging the screen. I also used lint free stuff and I was VERY clean about putting thing back together. So much so I have no idea how enough stuff could have been in there still to plug the screen.

No way I would do an oil change on these motors without cleaning the screens EVERY TIME.
