570 gearing ??

what gearing are people running on their 570 and what top speed does it seem like you are getting ??

I've had some conflicting feedback...............I'm chasing about 165-170kph top speed

some have said that 14:52 will do the trick where as others said thats too low and needs to be about 14:48 or 14:47

anyone else with any feedback ???

(yes I know I should test both myself, but have no time available to do the runs at present)

Tell me what is your current gearing, give me some reference of speed with RPM in top gear and tell me what is your top RPM.

With all those I can tell you what will be your top speed with each combination of sprocket (considering that the motor can run top RPM in top gear)

Is the 6th gear on the 570 lika a transport gear like the 650 have? If so what is the gear ratio for the 5th gear on the 570.

THX :)

CUL8ER,

It's not just the transmission gearing that's different it's the primary ratio. Here are the numbers, go to the link I posted above and do the math.

2009
Prmary ratio = 2.3:1
1st gear 2.57:1
2cd gear 1.88:1
3rd gear 1.47:1
4th gear 1.18:1
5th gear .95:1
6th gear .8:1

2007
primary ratio 2.68:1
1st gear 2.35:1
2cnd gear 1.76:1
3rd gear 1.36:1
4th gear 1.08:1
5th gear .91:1
6th gear .74:1

The '08's and '09's have almost the same overall gear ratio spreads, however the '08 has a larger gap between 5th and 6th gears than the '09, while the '09 has a larger 2nd to 3rd gap than the '08. Note that the '09 Berg shares the same tranny ratios with the '08 and later KTM 450/530 XCF-W's and EXC's.

Test gearing the 450 and 570 for Finke has found that 15 x 50 is too tall for the 570. The 5th to 6th gearing is a bit to wide spaced for 15 x 50. However, 15 x 52 appears to be the way to go. It's good for 170kph (indicated). This hasn't been verified with a GPS yet. The 570 outdrags a similarly geared KTM 505 at a standing start and maintains a bike length for quite a distance before the 505 slowly pulls away. For comparison, the 450 seems to be happy with 14 x 52.

thanks for the feedback Andy, we are going to give 14:50 on the 570 a run at Condo and see how that holds up.

The 505 KTM pulls away from the 570 Berg. Thats gotta suck. I would have thought the 570 had more ponies...

One thing that makes a big difference in speed is tyres. This particular Berg was wearing a Michelin Desert rear. It's a great tyre but it is also very heavy. You can pickup kph's here and there with alloy sprockets, lighter mx chains, and lighter tyre (or combinations). I usually ran an AC-10 on the rear of my 300 for desert racing. The Michelin Desert felt waaay too heavy for me and the throttle response just wasn't there. Everybody else hated the AC-10 but I liked it because it was hard and very light and suited the 2-stroke. The Berg will certainly throw knobs on that tyre (like my CRF) so I'll probably go with a D606. Will be curious to see what everyone recommends using on the Bergs for high speed desert racing/enduros. Guess that will be in another thread?

hey gazza what preparation have you done on your 570 for condo and have you got any pictures to share

FWIW...More top speed testing. 14 x 52 on a bone stock '09 FE450 topped out at 160kmph on flat hard pack. Verified with a GPS. I realize this is a 570 thread but I only offer this information for comparison. It still pulls top gear so I will try a 50 and 51 rear sprockets next week. What did you end up trying on your 570 for the Condo?

we used 14:50 on 4 570's all with open pipes Akra etc the best we got was 163 down to 155

the 650's pulled 163-170

the 570's neeed more cubes !!!

??? Not saying the readings are wrong cos i haven't done a speed test on my 570 yet, but somethings out.
So Andy is saying 450 on 14/52 stock is giving 160kmh.
Gazza is saying 570 on 14/50 with akra is giving a best of 163kmh.
Maybe SM tyres on 450? or speedos out? 115cc to play with.
I know the ktm 450 & 530 were quite close.
I have 14/52 on my 570 so i'll give it a blast after next race.

14-50

Will get you to 160. (just).
You'll probably need to go to 14-47 or 14-46 to get the monster speeds.

all our speed readings were with km calibrated ICO's, only one of the 570's got over 160, the other 3 got to about 155-158 and that was it ! no more puff left

Hey Man,

I don't know how much work you want to do to your bikes, but, you might want to pm Jocke. They have done some mild porting to the head on the new motor and it appears that it responds well to that.

Gaza, were you able to touch the limiter at all in 5th?

What rear tire are you running Gaza, and Andyconda? What were the conditions that you two were running in?

If Gaza is saying he is out of juice with a 14/50 (3.57:1), and 155-160KPH, I'm wondering how it is that Andyconda is pulling 15/52 (3.46:1) and topping out at 170kph.
