How much faster is the Berg, for road use ?
Thinking of Supermoto'ing both, what do ya reckon ?
Wheelies in 3rd, 4th, 5th ?

Hi peely,
Bit of an open ended question, depends what gearing your on. The FC550 wont wheelie in 5th (its only got 4 gears). I`m sure the FS has 6 speed.

Yeah, it's the FS with 6 speed.
Which do you think will make a better road (motard) bike ?
(Berg) Electric start, full lighting including brake and indicators,
easier to live with on road ?
(CRF) Kick start, basic lighting kit, harder to live with in traffic ?

Anyone :(

If I had to choose between the two I would take the Berg, hands down. Of course I am bias, I own 2 Bergs, a 2000 FE501E and a 2004 FE 550. The CRF would probably have to be over hauled several times before the Berg needs one.:D

Just my 2 cents.

I cannot speak directly to an FS, but I have rode an Fe 550 one the street and a CRF wouldn't really work that well in comparison. To gear the Honda for topend you would have to really owrk the clutch in traffic. The berg will work perfect.

As well, you would have reinvest the cost of the CRF in engine mods to get a performance level out of it equal to the 550. The 550 has a considerble amount more horsepower than a KTM 525, so the 450 would be quite weak. My humble 2 cents

Which 550 are you talking about? The FE550 or the FC550? FE comes with lights, e-starter, six-speed and so on. FC have 4-speed, no e-start, no lights.
FS comes both as 450 and 650 and they both have six-speed, lights and e-starter. If you do not want to do serious trail riding (due to lower and stiffer suspension) I'd put my money on the FS650. I have 18"/21" wheels for my FS650 and for a rider of my quality it works fine with the exception of the bigger MX jumps.

And thats MY two ören

2004 FE550 !
6 speed wide ratio box, full lighting kit
Looks just the same as FS 650.

I have a 2003 Fe501e and I have ridden a couple of 2004 CRF450's on the trails. Personally, the CRF's are more buzzy, the transmission doesn't shift as smooth, the engine is too abrupt, hard hitting, for my taste. Yet, my 501 has more power; smoother power. The CRF brakes aren't as good, and the clutch is not any where near as nice.

For road use, the CRF would be at an even greater disadvantage.

Oki, awesome bike. The extra 100cc's over the CRF isn't just for show, they are for tell as well

Just remember that for serious SM riding it will have a very soft suspension and for my liking a to tall seat height.

there was an article on a FS450e in supermto magizine i think it was called staff vrooms and in the current issue its a 05 FS650e vs 05 KTM 625SMC vs a tricked up monnier xr650 and then in tbm its a FE450e vs 450 EXC vs beta RR450
