Here we go on a top end refresh. Got timing chain,valve seals, double springs, cam follower bearings. Have everything apart and am thinking about starter problems. Will spin but disengage. Works, but since I have everything off now what is problem? Sprague?torque limiter? Thanks for advice.

it can be either the starter sprague or the starter clutch? you need to shim the starter clutch and fit a stronger spring to the sprague. we do a kit Eric.
check the edge of the nipples. if they have little 1-2mm flats on them it might be time for a new bearing.
but the 450 gets away with it and the 650 doesn't.

The parts diagram calls it the torque limiter or the freewheel. Is this the bearing you are talking about? Will pull clutch off after work today so I can get to parts to inspect them.
