550 rebuild

eureka ca.
Hi to all husaberg people, I have bought a high hour 07 fe 550 here in ca. The bike runs perfect and no wierd sounds at 265 hrs. I want to ride it for the summer and then do a complete rebuild. As far as I know there has been nothing done to motor except routine maintenance. Was ridden by adult and not beat on. My biggest question is should I do a cam chain and follower now to make it through the summer as cheap insurance? Can I put a 650 crank and piston in this case? I know the bore is all the same with different stroke, different deck height. I want to start collecting parts now for the rebuild as money allows. Should I use factory bearings or aftermarket? I appreciate all the advise. HUSABERG rule!!

No, you can't put in the bigger stroke crank. I would do the cam follower bearings, cam chain and check the valves. Dual valve springs are a good upgrade too.

Re. bearings - there are some very good threads here, not least this one here: http://husaberg.org/mechanical/17170-definative-main-bearing-thread.html ... OEM or equivalent spec or whatever-has-been-discovered-to-work-better, i.e. a certain NTN bearing instead of the OEM-spec SKF mains, as per the thread. AFAIK you don't have to buy bearings in labeled Husaberg baggies, just the same spec bearing wherever you can find it.

(Re. 650 / displacement increase - You COULD conceivably bore it out to 102-104-105mm, but I'd ... wait and see if you need it!! The 550's no slouch!)

Thanks for all the advice. Was looking for more power. I know the bike is tired, so will treat it nice. Just found oil in radiator last night after a ride yesterday also. hopefully waterpump shaft o-ring. What cam can I put in also? Read the post on main bearings, good stuff.

Getting all seals and orings for a waterpump shaft job. any ideas on oil in radiator? I am going to do a cam chain and dual valve spring swap along with a follower. Where is the best place to get the dual spring kit? Follower?

Probably the water pump oil seal / bearing combo needs replacement. P.N. 0625062013

You may want to pick up a new impellar too 80035055000 as they can get brittle and break upon disassembly.

Maybe some new circlips 0471100010 extras for later.

FYI the o-ring is located on the balancer shaft in the parts manual.

Thanks for the info. hopefully I can get parts here before weekend as it is supposed to rain here forever. Good time to fix bike.
