501 vs 470

Has anybody out there in UHE land got 04 501 fe, after having say a 2002 400/470 iam thinking of trading up from the 470 to a 501 . i rate the power of the 470 as smooth low down grunt but still likes yo rev ! so please all you 501 lovers tell me does the 501 flip your lids :?

I would think you would like it better.
I have ridden a 520 ktm and the low
end was stronger than my 470.The
501 and 550 should be even better.

ive had a blast on most of brookesters bergs from 03 450.s to 04 550 fc/fe all didnt have the low grunt the fe seem to have a lot softer hit of power ive heard that the 04 501 has the same cam as the fc giving it more punch moto x mag did a test on the 501 and gave it a good write up

As far as we know here in the U.S. a 04 501 does not exist. In fact the factory website tells us this:

The FE550e - sequel of the legendary FE501e - comes as a perfectly balanced bike giving you pretty much power in every situation.

There was a rumor that a 04 501 did in fact exist and was propagated by a member of this site who shall remain nameless (TAFFY).

Does a 04 FE501 really exist?

yes, sort of

These were more or less a special order item by importers to the factort at the beginning of the year so a few were manufactured during 04.

freind of mine has gone from the 470 to the 501 and he syas it's a far more powerful bike everywhere and that you can hold one gear for an entire lap.

04 501

The 04 501 are a limited edition and do exist, as I have seen them for sale at bike shops here in Oz.
I have ridden a KTM 525 and it was very similar to my Berg(fitted with the FCR) the only noticable difference was the 525 didnt rev as easily?

I have had an 04 501 now for about 8 weeks it is a blast to ride plenty of power.I raced hawkstone park on the 5th and only really had to use 3rd and 4th it doesn't liked to be over revved like my old 470 but if you short shift the power is unbeleivable far more than my old 03 501 it is a lot more responsive.I have spoken to a few riders who have come off the 550 and gone back to the 501 because they reckon the power is a lot more controllable with less wheel spin.
