Having to change steering bearings due to them being notchy, drop the yokes out today and bottom bearings rusty. After a lot of f..kin about I got the bottom bearing off, there is a washer under the bottom bearing. Having checked the All Balls kit I have there is no washer just bearings, cups and dust seals...
Do I just fit the All Balls kit as is or do I reuse the washer and refit it under the bottom bearing.

Cheers

I think you need to fit the washer first. at the end of it all it must all make a "sandwich" of the same height so that the castle nut is still in the same place as before.

just check the seals in the kit would you? you may find one has a massive thick washer seal and your old one is thin. this would change things. I just can't remember.

Seals are same thickness and part no. I'll add the washer before refitting bearings.

Taffy I think you're right. When I did my steering head bearings last year one of them had a thicker seal/washer but I cannot remember whose kit I used lol. Now I learned a new word "castle" nut cheers!

Also, check steering head play after riding around a bit after installing as they do need a bit of adjustment after a few miles.

it's one of things that you do so rarely, you make the same mistake the next time with a Simpson's 'doh!' like slap to the forehead.

I know all about Nuts - i've been one for years!

I managed to find a parts fiche of the yokes, washer clearly seen in pic so I refitted it .
