470 Kick Start Lever Swinging Free

For some reason my kick start lever will no longer stay "tucked in" against the motor. Every time I lean to the left while riding, the kick start lever swings out. Last fall I suffered a very painful contusion on the inside of my left leg, just above the knee, when the end of the kick start lever met the inside of my leg rather abruptly during a ride. I had a nasty bruise and a knot that lasted for weeks.

My 2smokes always had a set screw that held a spring and ball bearing inplace to provide the necessary pressure to hold the kick start lever in place. On this Berg lever, I don't see a set screw but rather a pin. Anyone know how to take the lever apart to adjust the tension? Or is this lever not servicable and must be replaced?

I need to fix this before I have a blood clot travel up my left leg and into my lungs!

Hi T:

You owe it to yourself to get an 05 kick start lever. Its been reported here that they tuck in and work very nicely. Take an aspirin a day though just in case :) .

There is a plastic stop on the case that the lever holds tension against. They tend to break and fall out on occasion. Is it still there?
