It may be discussed before but if anyone has ridden the 470 and the 450, what is your expirience. As I was thinking about getting an FE450 when they came out, I told myself to wait a while (or as long as I could anyway) With the new models coming out, the 450 is starting to get my attention yet again. But how does it ride/handle compaired to the 470 I currently have. Would it be worth updating or is it best to wait till 07? I heard these would get a new engine (or is it MX only) and maybe a new frame.
Thanks.

I have both an 01 470 and a 05 450.

The 450 has:

Way better suspension (no comparison)

Much quicker handling. The front end comes up easy until you adjust your riding position.

A revvyier motor yet retains good torque.

Needs to be shifted more

Perfect e-starting

Feels lighter

The 470 has:

A torquey and slower reving power delievery.

Feels like more than 20cc more displacement

Feels longer and has slower handling

Stock suspension is harsh

Clearly the handling and suspension are way better on the 450. Personally I like both motors equally. Each is a bit different.

If you ride in wide open spaces you may find the 450 down on power a bit compared to the 470 but if your riding/racing is mostly tight singletrack the 450 will be quicker.

The 05 450 is state of the art Husaberg and has a refined feel to it.

The more I hear about the 450, the more I am wanting to order one.
Having ridden a 2000 Yamaha 400 I am pretty sure i can get used to the revvy part.
I saw one 450 in a race and could clearly see how easy it was to throw the bike from left to right.
I only intend to use the bike on the MX track. I rode the 470 a bit more then I used to lately and that really made me like the bike even more. And with only 50-60 hrs on it in 2 years, i really don't need a new one because of "wear".
Now if the blue is the same as the older years, then I would have another argument. I really like the all blue one with yellow rims as drawn in a post here at the forum.
Thanks.

If you only ride on an MX track that changes everything. The 450 is vastly superior to the 470. It has a great MX motor in my opinion whereas the 470 is better suited to offroad. The 470 will get beat by the 450 as the 450 revs quite a bit quicker but still has enough torque to be forgiving. I don't race but just ride vet tracks on occasion.

The only problem with MXing the 450 is the tank. To me it is too wide and gets uncomfortable after awhile on a tight track throwing it around.

Wait and get an 06 with the slimmer tank :)

slimmer tank eric? you been swollowing those press blurbs again!

i saw the overhead view of the bike i don't think the tank is gonna be any slimmer!

get the heat gun out and melt the sides in like i did! that's the way to get ahead.

HI taffy,
I received a new 06 tank this week,i will measure its width for you tomorrow and report....nsman

I think the suspension on the FE450 is way too soft for
MX. The FX was stiff enough just not properly dampened.
The FC450 is the one for MX but I don't think they import
them anymore.

The 06 tank part #800 07 1130000 is 13" across at the widest points...front and rear rad shroud points. 7" at the rear.Comparing it to a tank on a new 05 fe450e on the floor it appears to be 1/2" narrower at the rear and a different shape as well .The fuel tap on the L.H. side is of the screw type so the fuel line no longer comes as close to the carb. The R.H. fuel tap is of the lever type but the the lever is positioned on the inside facing the engine....hope this is of some help....nsman

At first I had a problem with the suspension but got it revalved and it is good now.
Although I only ride MX, I don't have a problem with the tank being too wide. But my "riding style" doesn't include moving too much over the tank anyway. So the tank isn't a reason for me to thinking about buying a new bike.
Husaberg doesn't have an FC listed as far as I know, but the only difference would have to be the 4speed and 19" rear wheel if I am correct. Or is the FE powerwise any different then an FC?

miachusa

at the risk of repeating myself. the tall seat makes the top of the tank slim. it is simply put-a major leap forward.

it's as though someone from the husaberg factory did the following;

i'll make a racer and without saying it i'll trust that the intelligent racer and member of the public will spot the following;

you jet down at your own risk but it'll go like snot
you'll raise the seat height due to the little people
you'll raise the bars to suit
you'll get the most open exhaust YOU dare to use (but not us!)

so sir!

do it!

regards

Taffy
