411 on 01-02 rockers

Could someone tell me what the deal is with the 01-02 rockers and their upgrade?

The ones I have installed have a pin inside the dowel, as Taffy puts it in the doc (http://www.husaberg.org/wiki/index.php/Engine_upgrade, scroll down to "Rocker-arm roller bearings and pins" part.

I have a spare pair of rockers that look like the one on the right in the same chapter, with 4 punch marks around the pin.

Them seem to be similar in shape otherwise.

I am contemplating all my options here before I invest in any more parts. As some expected, the rocker thread is damaged.

Also, I realize the arm was not attached, and rolling into the cam chain compartment. Certainly a big issue as well (well, it always was like that now that I remember). Is it that the screw at the end of the arm is simply not holding it? Not long enough?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Froggy
I was confused with this also but I've just been thru the whole rocker arm thing myself and this is how it goes..
The early rocker arms have a 8mm diam pin and 17 needle rollers and the outer ring has a slight taper on the sides.
Later model has 7.6mm diam. pin with 15 needle rollers and the outer ring has parallel sides.
The ones that have a circular press mark on the ends of the pins have come direct from the factory.
The ones with punch marks have had the bearings replaced.
You can buy the 7.6mm bearing but can no longer get the 8mm (at least in this part of the world) and so have to buy a complete arm if you have the early style when they die.
Don't for a moment think that the 7.6mm are that much better than the 8mm as I am currently rebuilding cos of a 7.6 that collapsed.
They seem to all wear on the underside of the pin which makes sense since that is the bit under constant pressure and doesn't rotate like the needles or the outer ring.
Mine has the later model (good ones????) and I was given a set of the early models to experiment with.
If you have the early 8mm style you will find that 8mm case hardened dowel pins work great as a substitute bearing pin.
It seems a tragedy that you have to throw away good arms cos of a little bearing on the end so I'm gunna rebuild them and see how they go.

i have a brand new set of rollers for the original arms in anyone wants them. CHEAP too!!!!

Thanks, Coastie.

Does this mean I have the 8mm installed and the spares (the ones with the punch mark around the pin) are 7.6mm? Or the other way around?

They otherwise look perfect and I am considering fitting them. I just need to go ride this bike but I'd hate for it to explode...

Hey Fryguy send me a pm if you still have them. This is an upgrade that I plan to do when I get a chance. I assume I can fit these to the original rocker arms.

I told Jeff to donate $100 to the site and the first one gets them. I know I said cheap, but .....

Hi Froggy
The 7.6 come with the circlular press marks from the factory or with punch marks if they've had the bearings replaced.
Not sure how the early 8mm come from the factory.
You're best bet is to measure them but it's hard to be accurate without dismantling.
If I didn't know their condition I would punch out the pins and check them out.
They fail because the hardening on the pin wears and then they collapse.
If the pin wasn't too badly worn I reckon you could double the life by re-installing the pin 180 degrees.
By too badly worn I actually mean hardly worn at all because you must keep in mind that this is a bearing and the contact surfaces should have no signs of scratches, grooves etc or you are asking for trouble.
Easy job - all you need is a hammer, punch and a vice to press them back together.

hi coastie i replaced the rocker roller bearings on my 2000fe501 with the early rollers 3 months ago parts came from bendigo dirtikes. you still can get them if that fails look up the 2000 exc525 ktm parts manual a american site has the fiche for this i think bike bandit
the ktm has the same parts as the berg
cheers flatchat

Now that golden bit of info needs to go straight to the pool room or at least get noted in the doc.
Where were you when I asked that question a month or so ago???
