My first post on here gents...

I have a 10' model fe 390 which I think has horn wires hiding under the tank which I want to get at to fit the horn which was removed when the bike was new for racing I guess.

How do I get the tank off this bike (it has a cooling fan fitted)?

Idiots guide please - I'm new to spannering these bikes and they're different to the last KTMs I've owned!!

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks Davo,

What a performance to get off that is!

I think I'll just buy a kids bicycle horn for its MOT test, rather than stripping half the bike down to get at the wires (that might not even be there)!

I appreciate the link though - thanks again.

Taking the tank off looks like a daunting task but after you have done it one time, it is a piece of cake. I can get my tank off in about 30 minutes now.

Ah 30mins that's not bad considering any other bike takes 2-5mins :D

They are a bit of a pita but not that bad if you don't have a fan that's half the battle done.

As mentioned above, its only hard the first time...........

Even with the fan kit, using only a speed handle I can have mine off in about 5 minutes. Of course I had a lot of practice when I was p-typing the sub frame tank. After taking your tank and sub frame off and putting it back on 120 times you get good at it!

Seriously, if you don't have a fan, you can do it easily in 5 mins. With a fan, you just have have to take off the muffler, loosen one sub frame bolt and remove the other two and let the sub frame lay back to allow the tank to move back to clear the fan.

I think my first tank removal was something like a hour or more...now it's more likely 5min if I wanna do it in haste, but 10mins is usually when I hold the beer on the other hand.
