Husaberg North America is closing out 380 kits for the old engine. The new retail price is $420 US and $458 CAN. Contact your local dealer for ordering. If you dealer is unaware of this close out, have them contact their Husaberg Sales Rep (Clay).

for those that think this kit is ..........I"ve built 3 of these bike, one with a cam from a 00 400 KTM, which worked very well. For anyone lookign for a bike for thier kid or wife, or a 250 like power, this is the bomb. The bike will feel lighter and make the power a litle more manageable for the tight stuff.

Curious about the ktm 400 cam what does it do different than the stock cam? Thinking of putting the kit in a 08 450fe. My logic is it will make me faster in the tight stuff. Do you lose any of the bottom end torque? Very curious as to how it runs. I really want it to feel lighter.

I can't give you much about the difference in the cam as I installed it with the 380 kit. The bike does feel lighter and more nimble in the tighter trees.

do a search on the 380, as I know I posted about them when I built them..its been a while and I forget the smaller details.

cheers

Fry

i've seen the ktm cam and its a soft copy of the 53 cam more akin to the 400s 01 cam. the best cam is still the 08 that the huseys come with. fry never did a back-to-back test on just the cam difference so until you do it, or someone else comes forward with the correct info i would say the husaberg cam is better.

Will this kit fit an FE400?
I need to buy a new piston/liner anyway, so thinking this might be worth it!
Any other place I can get it that cheap (if it fits) in europe? or should I just order from the States?

Cheers
Nikos

depends whether you pay tax on it or not?

they cost £425 here. yes they fit yours fine and you get a headgasket with it. if your liner was still round i'd offer £25 for it.

Taffy

Thanks Taffy, I read quite a few posts and the only thing I was a bit worried about was if the 380cc kit's piston would fit on the FE400 motor conrod's little end.

You're right about the tax, maybe if I manage to find a dealer who'd send it as a gift? Still it's half price than in the UK, and worth the risk..

I'd better keep my piston/liner until I make sure everything works well, and will get back to you if they do.
Cheers

the piston will need a little machining IMHO. i only saw the piston but it has a HUGE dome on it right out to the edge of the piston. if i recall it only has about 2mm of squish.

so, i'm a little concerned now that you have reminded me! .....

what i can say is that it comes down to a straight challenge. 400 head v 450 head. coz the rest fits. i have both here and i will try and have a measure for you if i get a chance.

Taffy

Thank you Taffy!
I'd be really grateful if you could also confirm that the 380 piston pin will fit the 400 conrod..
Cheers
Nikos

the 380 piston fits the rod no problem but you must get a bigger little end bush. it must go from your 18mm to 20mm.

although you would share the same 92mm piston you must remember that the piston is for the 450 engine. this engine has a 20mm little end so they make it like this for minimum problems for the owner.

i have just checked and there is no chance of the piston fitting because the squish on the 450 is 6mm all the way around and the 380 piston is also a circular 'dome' on top. whereas the 400 head which you have and can see is waisted on the exhaust side.

the dome on the 380 will be about 85mm in diameter and 4mm high if i recall and you would need lots of work.

you really need to look at a re-nikasiled liner (if it needs it) and a wossner aftermarket piston.

Taffy

Hey Bob, I had a Sciatic nerve issue and had a bought with pain meds this summer...
No V2R for me.

I own a 2008 450 that I picked up a month ago and I really like it! I still have my 950 SE, but the 450 is my little woods/ dirt track/ ice racing bike. The 450 is a bit overkill, so I'm interested in the 380 kit.

Thanks Bob... I think I'll be going under the knife sooner rather than later.... the meds make me pretty miserable.

That being said, I've got a deposit on a 650 leftover, so the new Bergs will have to wait for a bit. They feel like toys to me

I have a 380 kit still in the box If anyone is looking for one? $400.00 cdn.
