2012 FE 570...a little help please

Ok Guys,
So I fuelled up this morning and went for a quick 80 K’s off road run today. The 570 intermittently hesitated when I pulled on the gas…..two backfires and when I wound on the throttle a number of times for a nano second, powered on, hesitated, nearly put me over the bars and then powered on a gain….only a slight hesitation but enough to put the ***** up me…

Here’s the breakdown

a. 650 K’s old from new
b. Done 3 rides prior about the same terrain, same distance…no issue
c. Last week I ran the tank as low as it’s been since I purchased it….low fuel light came on
d. only run 98 Ron fuel
e. put new air cleaner on yesterday, all clean inside

f. Seemed to happen regardless of me winding slowly or snapping the throttle…again hesitation was only for a split second but it was enough

g. Fuel that was in the bike when purchased was unknown and age / source unknown, albeit not an issue and I’ve now run 3 tanks of gas / fill ups with 98 Ron.

h. Only mod I’ve done is to put on an opened up Barrett Muffler…which I did from first ride, again no issue until now….no mapping done as yet.

i. I was riding with a mate on a 525 who fuelled up after I did with the same pump…no issue

j. When I hiccupped, it never stalled ?

I’m figuring fuel filter / filters / fuel flow, but by god I’d take on board any ideas before I take to it with a spanner

wires

check all electrical connections,
kill switch
loose terminal
plug wire to cap, plug.

I am have a similar issue and believe it to be the plug wire, just been too lazy to tear into it lately. Seen a few go bad over time.

Mine tends to act up more when it is under load...same thing, cuts out but I can sometimes throttle out of it
good luck

filter

if that doesn't work I'd take the tank off and check the filter in the injector. When I changed my fuel pump out a lot of fibers from the (newer used)tank fuel filter got into the injector filter causing massive backfires eventually the bike would not even start after running her lean for way too long.

This filter is built into the injector and cannot be removed as far as I'm aware, just needs some air pressure to clean it out. Don't strip the head of the screw holding the injector, as it's hard to get to one of them and it's a philips head.
.

Thanks for the pointers guys, will address and work to sort out the issue. Jon, in regards to the TPS...in your opinion, if this was the case would it miss and hesitate all the time rather than at random points in a ride ?

Honestly I don't know. I believe you are right that it's fuel. So get your spanners out.

I read a few threads here on this forum and people wrote about flame outs and cut outs, and as its a good thing to check and it take no much time I thought why not.

Hi great forum, my tps before adjustment 0,560 and I had same issue. 2009 570 fe
after adjustment too 0,600 problem solved. :)
Thanks jon andersson

asb....can I confirm you were you having the same problem as me...? and a couple of further questions if I may....

a. was this an issue all the time when you rode the bike ?

b. Or was it an intermittent issue Like I was having...ie fine for 10 minutes...then a fart...then fine for 20 minutes etc...

Jon....sorry to be a pain, as I prep to hunt my issue and having back read a ton of forum, I may have misunderstood where that fine inline filter in the fuel line was.....I understood it was at the join point when the fuel line disconnection point was...but I couldn't see it when I cracked the line.....found a post that shows the little fine filter was in fact in the last section of the fuel line where it meets the engine and no doubt just before the injector, I'm guessing I just had it wrong....

The post I found says set up a removable clamp just before the injector and swap out the filter or remove it....

I'm now running a fuel sock on the tank, will remove and clean my fuel tank and have ordered a pack of new filters as a stand by which I'll replace each engine / oil filter service which will be for me every 400 - 500 k's

Your input from Norway is always of value

Ride safe

Good that you probably found out the problem! And you are not a pain, the ****** fuel is.... ;)
This is an amazing bike and the normal problems are few:
- Fuel pump
- oem inline filter
- **** in the injector
- TPS out of adjustment
- Bad connections in the loom and/or shortcuts due to wear

Imho it's best to clean and check before buying new parts, so before buying an expensive pump make sure it's not something else. Even if you are very sure it's the pump it's never wrong to clean the system.

Every 45 hours I make sure I clean the inline filter (10 micron super mini golan), the injector and I remove the loom for a proper look at connections and cables. But I drive very dirty enduro so I guess it depends on how you exposed your bike is.
Sometimes I clean the injector in between as the Nordic fuel is so **** and full of ethanol.

The 570 is a truly amazing bike and with a clean fuel system it works as intended; without any sign of hesitation between gas handle and back wheel :)

whats the highest grade of fuell you can buy over there.
Around here the lowest (pump) fuel ther is is octane 95 wich contains a small percentage ethanol if you buy 98 there is no ethanol in it....
And it's not that big of a price difference compared to 95

Hi
My problems occurred all the time.
Almost had the same problem a few years ago, then it was intermittent, then it was bad connection to the battery terminal.
hope it works out...

Thanks for your help guys,
Will remove and replace the inline filter, clean the tank and go over all electrical connection with some dialeteric grease to make sure they're protected. Found a plug in TPS sensor tool so I ordered one...not a lot of money and handy thing to have in the tool box.

Got a new plug ready to go in as soon as my plug spanner arrives, didn't get the genuine tool kit with the bike, I'll check and clean the plug cap and lead. While it's apart I figure I'll wrap the mid pipe and put some heat deflective tae under the tank...crazy design runs mighty close to the tank in a couple of spots.

Will have It done over the weekend and take it out for a squirt the following weekend and let you know if it's cured, I'm sure it will be....fuel choice for me is always 98 ron, no real cost difference and a better consistency of fuel I think

This from last weekend

Lads, just pulled that filter....Jesus it's small and it's black...now from what I've gathered the replacement ones I've ordered are grey being the 20 micron...this thing is so small I could swallow it, can't possibly see if it's blocked or not but could see some debris for sure....reckon it's my issue

Cleaning and putting Di electric grease on all fittings tonight...what a job

The filters swell when they get warm. The black, 10 micron, will then be less than 10 micron restricting the flow. KTM then gave out the grey 20 micron so when it swells it will still be big enough. Cheap solution imho so I went for a bigger better filter (10 micron super mini golan) and installed it after the quick disconnect.

Promise not to laugh now mkay? Have you checked the leads are tight on the battery? I had an intermittent problem with my bike cutting off, fixed everything I suspected and seemingly good I took off for the trails only to find out it started again after 30 minutes. At this time I was so pissed I was close to attend the fetus position and suck my thumb. However I tried a bit more(stubborn) and it was ok again, HOWEVER if stood up it blurred sitting down it worked, ah!, so I stopped and checked the terminals and sure the ground was lose on the battery, tightened it and that was it.

Quite embarrasing but you wont give a rats *** if works from then on, and it has been :)

May or may not be your issue, worth checking though.

As part of running the check on all components Tom Tom, I did check the battery and earth strap, they were all very tight, but didn't stop me from removing, cleaning and leaving a smear of Di Electric grease on for good measure, I've seen it as an issue on other Fuel Infected bikes before so it was on the list....I tried to blow through the inline filter I removed from the bike...very difficult....cleaned and then blew it out....much better

Today I got my grey 20 micron units....even on a cleaned 10 micron unit the difference just to blow through is huge. I've removed the tank sock, emptied the tank and blown it with air, sock back in, new filter in place..

Jon, I've looked at ordering a Mini Golan, good range, used their filters and taps on my Harleys for some years....do you run the Golan as well as the little grey filter on your bike or did you do away with the grey filter and rely just on the Golan...?

I never used the grey and would never use it, golan or not. Pre 2012 models don't have it and they have only caused problems.

Got a KTM 450EXC -14 to releive the 570 from dirt from today.
Got it monday and trail rode it today.
