2011 fe570s questions

Hi! Name is James, new member, first post.

So.. I have a deposit on an '11 570s but i have some concerns. Can't find any articles on the changes from 09-10-11 and i'm nervous that they might have mucked things up getting it street legal. Where I live I need a plated bike and they're so hard to come by so my only "Real" choices are the 450-530 exc's and the 'Berg. I've read so many good things about them all and if I could have the "perfect" bike it would prolly be a FE450s, if it existed...

Some random concerns;

1. Gearing? I know the KTM's are way tall for off road use which is where i plan to ride. (easily fixable but want a head start on ordering parts)
2. Smog, emissions? did they change anything? Different map?
3. Was he CC fork placed on the 570 as well? (cycle world only mentioned the 390/450)
4. WTF?? where are my blue rims!!

My friends are trying to talk me into a 450 exc because here in NJ it's crazy rocky and tight trails. None of them have any 'Berg experience though and so far it hasn't been enough to sway me. I love everything I've seen and read so far. However, it does put some doubt in my head that maybe a 570 is overkill for where i ride. Any 570 owners with some tight trail input would be helpful.

I'm coming off a 2001 YZ250 woods set up and a crf450 woods set up, any comparison to these two would be helpful as well.

Thanks! Love the site!

I took my 2011-FE570 down to southern Spain a few weeks ago. I kept it on the OE gearing (13/52 - or is it 12/52?) and it sailed up this sort of stuff:

I was first up, so no video of my 'Berg! :cry:

I believe all 2011 'Bergs have CC forks - even the paraffin-pissers.

There's another thread somewhere about the blue rims (which mine has). They are nice when the bike is new, but I suspect they will look prett scruffy long before silver rims look as bad.

My 2010 570 loves tight single track. It handles way better than my previous rides (CRF450x TE450 530EXC).
As soon as you get the 570 moving it behaves like a 250, very nimble and confidence inspiring.

I have looked the 2011 street legal 570s and talked to my dealer about them.

The changes are minimal, they have kits to remove the small EPA thingy on the side of the engine and the rest is mostly DOT stuff (lights, mirrors, reflectors). In short, they did it right and you shouldn't worry if this is the bike you want. If I didn't already have my '09 I would get a 2011 instead.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm now very excited about getting this bike!! :mrgreen:
