Well I got to ride the 2011 FE570 and I must say that It lived up to and exceeded my expectations.
It's my friends new bike and I brought along my 05 FE650. I have 2 650s and this one doesn't have the
Pro suspension and handling but isn't that bad with the 84kg shock spring and softened up 48kg fork springs.
We both have new tires installed with the Pirelli mx extras on the rear and the pro on the 570 front and the
xcms on the 650 front. Ride terrain was single track mid to soft sand and areas of hard pack sand.
We both have scotts steering dampers.
After a few miles of warm up it was time to trade off bikes. The 570 is quiet. The throttle response is clean
crisp and instant. Imediately I realized how well it tracked and the stock suspension wasn't really all
that bad but on the softer side. A little spongy. The balance of the bike was very impressive with a real
flickable feel compared to my 650. I felt like I could move around on it well and in the corners was able to
get in there and point and shoot.
The power of the 570 is plenty and is very tractable. We didn't have the bikes opened up today but I could tell
this power plant has more than enough to make me happy. The gearing today was 14/46 at 3.28. I liked it and would probably go just a little lower but not much. Maybe 14/48 at 3.42. I was able to pull the gears well at
14/46.
So after switching coming to a rest we evaluated our experiance. Of course I liked the 570 alot and he liked
my 650. He said the stiffer suspension gave him confidance and the front seemed to float on the soft sand
and not knife in. I have always called my 650s stable runners because they seem to tractor over anything and
feel secure. The gearing is 15/47 and 3.13 on the 650. He thought it felt lower than the 570 and wants to try lower at possibly 13/46 and 3.53. Interesting, he thought mine was lower. The primary gear ratio must be a lot different. The lower gears I felt were different, but with the 15/47 I know the upper gears have a long pull on the 650.
So we switched back and I was a little surprised he like my 650 so well, but then again, it's a stable runner.
The 570, well even with my other 650 that I ride even better with the tailored suspension, it's hard to compare with the possitive feedback of the new generation bikes. They have definetely gone in the right direction.
It may be heavier, but I didn't notice.
Great job Husaberg!
